As much as I hate asking for help, I will because it's for my furry children. I have fallen on hard times and unfortunately so have my precious Bengals. For those of you who don't know my boys, Hermes is a 3 1/2 legged bengal lynx mix and Pias is a one eyed Bengal lynx mix. I have had them both since they were kittens, as they were adopted from the same litter. They have been with me almost their whole lives with the exception of the last two years. The boys will be ten in October and they just finally returned to me. Since they have been back I've noticed some serious health concerns. Both of them are very underweight, and have ear infections. Hermes has a swollen infected eye, runny nose, and wet noisy breathing. I desperately want to take them to get fully checked out by a vet, but it is very expensive. If you can spare a bit to help make my boys well I would be forever thankful.

Sounds like Hermes has an upper respiratory infection. It might help if you get him some L-Lysine tablets (vitamin aisle at the store). Crush up 500 mg twice a day and give it to him in wet food. The herpes simplex virus is what causes URIs in cats. (in humans, it gives us cold sores). The Lysine helps to block the virus. It won't cure him, if he does have a URI he needs antibiotics. But it will help. Give the same to Pias to prevent him from contracting the URI too. It spreads very quickly between cats.

As for his eye, you could try distilled/boiled (and cooled) water, and every couple of hours with a dropper (like for kid's medicine) flush out his eye carefully. Again, it won't cure it, but it could relieve some discomfort.

I've been cleaning his eye which definitely seems to help. Pias is still not showing signs of picking up what Hermes has, he has different issues. Thank you so much for helping. Hermes is going to be seen soon and get on some antibiotics. You are awesome!!!

Thanks!

I've had to deal with a few URIs myself, so I can recognize the symptoms pretty well. Since they're underweight, you might want to try giving them some wet food along with their dry. I use Sheba, which is nicely priced and grain free, and you can get it at Walmart. Mix their dry food in it.

As for their ear infections, I did a google search and got this. You could run it by your vet and see if that might help, and it'll save you money with treating their ears.

But remember, the L-Lysine is important! And keep the bottle around for future problems. If either kitty starts getting watery eyes, or sounds sniffly, give them the 500mg twice a day to help clear it up.

I've got four furry babies myself, so I know how important they can be to people X)

yeah they are getting a mix in their food. I have to get some Lysine I don't live really close to a vitamin shop. I;ll try the solution on their ears, Pias has like gray orbs growing in there. really worrisome. But I can't do anything except try nd clean the ears for the moment.

CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, basically any kind of place like that should carry Lysine. You don't need to go to a vitamin store, just a super store like Walmart, or a drugstore like CVS/Walgreens. Idk where you are and what kind of stores you have, but I've gotten it at a place called Meijers.

My pirates are doing a bit better. The lysine is helping some but they still need to make it to a vet.
