are you a vegan? are you a vegetarian? if so, why are you not a vegan?

are you a veg*n for ____ reasons? animals? health?

how long have you been a vegan?

what do you normally eat?

(for the record, i don't consider somebody to be a vegan if they do not live by the lifestyle. it doesn't just mean not eating milk, cheese, and eggs and yogurt and ice cream - you have to dig really, really deep to find products that contain nothing at the expense of any animal whatsoever in any way.)

was it hard for you?

what sort of diet do you maintain?

i was a vegetarian since 10, &by 14 i realized that i wasn't doing anything to help by simply not eating meat. so, i made the transformation to complete veganism - no animal products in any way, shape, or form. i never had any issues with it, aside from the fact that i'm fucking starving all the time because i don't make nearly enough to support a nutritious diet. i gotsta make a block of tofu and bag of quinoa and a bunch of broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, celery, apples, oranges, other fruits/vegetables and some soymilk last for 2 or 3 months. (obviously buying sparsely, seeing as vegetables rot and all that.) mine is completely plant-based. one bright sunny day i might get a better job so that i can support myself and my boyfriend's vegan lifestyle more comfortably without our tummies whispering death threats in our ears. long story short, it is something that is very important to me, that's why i emphasized on all that bullshit.

now tell me your story.

&if you want, if you're not vegan you can tell me why, whether because you think meat tastes too good to give up (gag) or whatever.

one question i do have, though, for those who say that a vegan diet is more expensive - how, why? i've never found it to be true, but i'd like to hear more insight. with a low enough income, you'll never fulfill your nutritional needs, vegan or not.

I've been a vegetarian for six and a half years but I've never been able to take that leap to veganism. For one, I love cheese, chocolate, ice cream, etc. and soy milk just tastes... wrong. haha. Plus, my parents would probably not allow it. My mom is already worried for my health because I'm vegetarian even though I've been taking really good care of myself. I do support everything that vegans stand for though. It's just that I don't think I could ever make THAT strong of a commitment.

I've also never understood why people think the vegetarianism/veganism is expensive either. It's really not. Most of the meat and dairy substitute products they sell are equal or less in price compared to other frozen meals, so I really don't see where everyone thinks the extra money is being spent. haha.

I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I try to avoid eating meat as often as possible. (I'll have it maybe once every few months or something.) Mostly for health reasons, but also a little environment-related.

I honestly can't give up dairy though. D; I LOVE coffee with milk or creamer, and I haven't been able to find any decent creamer/milk substitutes that I like. (But I would seriously love to eat less, if there were better alternatives.) I don't drink soy milk, don't like this one coconut milk I've tried, HATE almond milk, etc. Sigh. :P

and I agree with your comment about it not being expensive to eat vegetarian. Dried beans, lentils, barley, etc. are about one of the cheapest options available. Also fruits and vegetables can easily be bought in bulk and frozen. :) (Or buy them already frozen.) I think the "expensive" foods tend to be things like processed foods, which are expensive whether they are vegan or not.

definitely. i work at a grocery store (night shift) so i know for a fact that a cart full of fruits and vegetables is cheaper than a cart full of 3/4th as much meat products as the other person got in plant-based products and produce. i can't afford to eat too well as it is, but if i ate meat i'd be royally fucked. i mean somebody comes up with a cart full of steak and pork and and it's always over $200 even if it isn't that much. $200 could get me over half a years worth of meals. jesus. either way, A+ for cutting out meat as much as possible. it's just unhealthy. humans are naturally herbivores.

I'm a vegetarian. I'm not a vegan simply because I don't want to give up cheese and yogurt and such, as that is where I get a good portion of my protein. I also enjoy consuming those products, and choose not to cut them from my diet, especially since there are so many foods I won't/can't eat. Also, if I had to give up chocolate, someone would DIE.

I chose to become a vegetarian mostly for health reasons. ) less fat and ) none of those weird hormones and creepy chemicals they put in meat to preserve it nowadays. BUT, I also don't really like the taste of meat too much, so it wasn't too hard to cut something I was 'meh' about out of my diet. THIRDLY, I was always beyond paranoid of getting a food-borne illness from undercooked meat. So...vegetarianism was a way to escape the paranoia, ha. xD

My switch to become a vegetarian was not hard for me since like I said, I don't even like meat that much, and I've been one for like 2 1/2 years now.

I know you asked like 10 other questions, but I'm sneaking on Subeta when I should be studying, so I can't answer anymore. x.x

I've been a vegan for two years now, and i was vegetarian for nine years before that (yeah, it took me a while to stop making excuses and just go all the way). I did it for ALL of the reasons: for the animals, for my health, for the planet, and because i really never even liked most meat in the first place. And i've always hated milk; i've been using soymilk since before it even occurred to me to go veg because dairy milk just tastes so nasty to me.

Going vegetarian was never hard for me at all. On the contrary, it made things easier on occasions when i was expected to eat meats i really detested (pork chops, ribs, fried chicken, bleh!) and i had an excuse not to eat them. XD Vegan was a little harder because of one thing: cheese. Evil cheese! But now there's Daiya and that stuff is so good. Whenever i get a craving for something cheesy, that stuff does the trick.

I agree that a vegan diet can be cheaper...particularly, a healthful one consisting of beans, whole grains, lots of produce, tofu, etc. You can even grow some of your own food in your garden. If all you eat is processed animal-product substitutes though, then no, it won't necessarily be cheaper. I like to have those things too (like the Daiya cheese) but not exclusively.

I'll throw another question out there: What first made you become veg*n? For me, it was a Vegan Outreach brochure given to me at a street fair. I didn't even look at it right away; i took it home and threw it in some pile somewhere. One day i was cleaning and ran across it, actually read it, and thought: "Why the hell didn't this occur to me sooner? I don't even like meat and i love animals; WHY AM I EATING THEM?!" It was one of those headdesk moments. :P

I've been a vegetarian for only 6 days. I love meat but after watching a documentary that shows what animals go through JUST so we can eat their meat, I decided I wanted to stop eating meat/animal fat/gelatin. There are SO many gorgeous things to eat. I love grains and vegetables, pasta, rice, potatoes. I MIGHT consider going vegan later on, but right now I'm happy being vegetarian.

I've been vegetarian for uh.. 7 months now or so, but I never really had an altruistic reason for switching. I just don't like the taste of meat, and have never liked it. My older brother used to get the meat at dinners when I was a kid because he loved it, and I'd go months without eating it at all during college. Part of that was because meat is expensive and there was also the fact that I just didn't like to eat it so I just chose not to unless I had to, which usually meant during dinners with the family where meat on occasion was served as a protein source.

As for why I refuse to switch to veganism on any count, one I actually do like the taste of mlik and eggs and stuff of that nature. I also like the taste of honey and two, fake cheese tastes horrible to me. I've had most versions of fake cheese by accident at least once or twice and could never stand the taste of any of them.

are you a vegan? Nope. are you a vegetarian? if so, why are you not a vegan? I'm a vegetarian, I'm not a vegan because there are ways to get non-meat biproducts from animals that do not hurt the animals, and I'm okay with doing that. I see no reason not to. I will never try to be vegan, I don't think I could live healthily that way.

are you a veg*n for ____ reasons? animals? health? I'm a vegetarian because I do not want to be responsible for the death of animals. I first became one after hearing Gabe Saporta say "Why kill animals if I don't have to?" and it kinda got me to actually go all the way into vegetarianism.

how long have you been a vegan? I've been a vegetarian for 5 years, I began at age 13.

what do you normally eat? Processed vegetarian food I can cook in my dorm's microwave. I like Morning Star products.

was it hard for you? Nope, easy as pie. I dislike meat.

what sort of diet do you maintain? Umm, a vegetarian one?
