it's so hard and annoying and ive only heard back from one place, out of literally hundreds ive sent out
I haven't, but I will be soon. I've sent out a bunch of applications in the past and heard back a few months later. I just hate the idea of going into a place and asking for an application. My last job was pretty much given to me the day I walked into the store to ask for an interview, which was pretty sweet ^_^
yea same.... but now im applying for like 'career' jobs, and it's so stressful i wish i could just walk in to dreamworks or whatever and fill in an application... if only they'd actually respond, it'd be a whole different thing, but im just... sitting and waiting lol
what kinds of places are you applying to, if i might ask?
I'm still in the summer job phase of my life. 2 more years before I finish college and start looking for career jobs... There are quite a few small businesses in my area, so I'm gonna be applying to a lot of those. Locally run ice cream shops, grocery stores, restaurants, stuff like that.
I'm sure you'll hear back from all these places soon. It will all be worth the wait in the end :D
i reeeeeally hope so, because i reaaaaalllly need to move out asap
and oh cool, ice cream store sounds fun i'd be wary of restaurants, though. idk how it is by you specifically, but ive heard horror stories about the way restaurant staff is treated (both by patrons and management, and both just in general, and like... money-wise)
Yeah, my one coworker used to work in a restaurant and always told me her stories X) She once came into work with a cut above her eye because somebody with a serving tray had walked into her (she's super short). Probably gonna be staying away from restaurants, but if I have no other choice, then I'll probably have to work at one :|
What kinds of jobs are you applying for?
OH NO that sounds really painful and... awful
and im an illustrator, so im looking for... illustration jobs lol specifically concept art and/or something having to do with cartoons or comics
Just checked out some of your stuff on tumblr, you're really good ^_^ I have an art major friend who wants to write and illustrate comic books after college (: I wish you the best of luck in your job search!
ahh thank you!! and i you
I am! Just got fired from my old job last month. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of places with open positions near me. Don't think I'm gunna hear from any of them any time soon. After all, everyone's just gotten rid of a bunch of seasonal employees. They have all the surplus they need. =.=
aw that really sucks, im sorry and oh man i completely forgot about seasonal workers (i don't work retail anymore, and when i did, i had stayed at that job for like 5 years) ugh that's horrible are there any large supermarkets or like a home depot or something? where i worked, they always needed lots of people, because lots of people shopped there and also all the shelves had to be restocked and whatever
Home Depot is sorta hard to get to for me (I can't drive XP) and I've applied to one of the supermarkets nearby. I don't think the other one (of course, the closer one haha) is hiring. I've only ever worked retail but I don't mind it :) But those are great ideas! Oh ps have you checked out things like snagajob.com? Like I'm sure you have but just in case you haven't, you should! I always see a lot of illustrator jobs up there.
yea ive been looking on monster and craigslist and like.... every other job website lol except that one though! so thank you very much!!
Yeah I totally love that site. It's much easier to navigate than the others, too. They really designed it well. Somehow I totally forgot about monster so I'm gunna check that out now! XD
maybe don't check monster, cuz it's kind of a mess lol indeed is good and there are lots of other random job sites that i found good stuff on, but unfortunately i don't remember them (and i don't think they'd help you anyway)
Meee.
I graduated high school last May and I started looking for part time work right after. I really need a job to help pay for college, but no place will hire me because I have no work experience. Target is the only store that has actually responded to my application at all. I had an interview with them in September, but I didn't get hired. My friend actually got an interview with them a month later and she didn't get hired either. She and I are in the same boat right now though. Neither of us has any experience and basically every place we apply to ignores us.
It's so frustrating. It's even more frustrating though that a bunch of stores won't even let you submit applications unless you have work experience and professional references. :c
Oh lol it is a little bit of a mess, huh. I'll look through it a little bit anyway but I won't be too hopeful haha. Glad you like snagajob :) Good luck!
haha im sorry to say it only gets worse (at least in terms of art-related jobs) unless you have some magical contact to give you a foot in the door, literally everything requires like 3-5 years working experience and it's just like i need a job in my field, but i need to have already had a job in my field to have a job in my field, and it turns into this giant confusing roller coaster @ i see some people i know just coasting by on their parent's money or having family friends who work on wallstreet and who can get them 'in' or whatever, and lemme tell ya, it's very disheartening...
HAHA WOW THIS GOT REALLY DEPRESSING SUDDENLY
good luck~ and yea it's a good site, but the problem also is location so like there might be a great job, but it's in arkansas or something and id ever know about it or be able to get it @
Yeah, I know. I'm in school for Graphic Design right now, but when I graduate, I'm not planning on working for anyone (unless by some magical stroke of luck I get hired by my favorite company, but lol let's be real.) I'm just planning to do freelance work, which I obviously won't be able to live on, so I still need to find another job to fill in the gaps between freelance jobs. haha
It's like that to get a job anywhere now though. I AM LOSING HOPE. I live in a small farm town, so literally everyone else here has family that owns a dairy or a farm, so they all got jobs because of "connections" and I'm just here like, "Heeey, someone please hire me. I am desperate."
