If you personally haven't had any issues with the pills, then I don't think they would cause any problems for you. Every person's body reacts to medications differently, and people who have bad reactions may be more likely to speak out about how terrible pills are. I'm not sure of any natural treatments, I have heard of some women saying they bled less using natural (cotton) pads though as opposed to the normal ones you buy at the store. Also there's this thing called a Diva cup which I just recently started using, and if you're not too squeamish or grossed out by the blood or inserting it, it could possibly work out for you. It's basically a small cup that you insert into your vagina, and rather than absorbing blood like a tampon is collects the blood which you can then pour into the toilet. If it's inserted correctly (which can take some trial and error to figure out), it's pretty much unnoticeable and doesn't even leak, and you can wear it about 8 hours with no risk of TSS (although of course you can take it out earlier if your blood flow is that heavy or you want to empty it more often). I know that probably sounds kind of gross but honestly I've really liked it so far, it doesn't feel uncomfortable like pads sometimes do and it doesn't dry out like tampons can. Plus it's reusable for like a year or two, so you don't have to keep buying pads/tampons. It isn't for everyone but since you mentioned going through a lot of pads I figured I'd suggest it.

Otherwiiise, I personally don't know of anything natural to regulate or lessen blood flow, I'm just on the pill which has worked great for regulating although I still have sort of heavy periods.

I know but just hearing about what might happen ..it makes me flip tables ah ah :P I don't have my heavy periods anymore, but it makes me constipated most of the time.. I heard about the Divacup and I was highly ..interested.I'm afraid of it being lost?or stuck in my vag tho(I know it's weird). And well,I actually just started using reusable cloth pads but it's going through if I don't take my pills..So I'm not grossed out by my own blood.

What exactly is the problem-- you just want a different alternative or you're scared of taking a non-natural method?

Personally I've been on the pill for about a year now and I love it. I've had no harmful side effects like weight-gain, and they do make my periods much lighter and more bearable. They also help my skin a LOT. I got on the pill because I am sexually active, but also because I had horrible cramps that would reduce me to crying and feeling unable to get up which caused me to miss school, so I knew there was a big problem. The pill has helped me all-around and I can't imagine like... NOT being on it, lol.

But if you want a different method I would just talk to your gyno and I'm sure they can come up with a better alternative! I know there's the shot method, IUDs, and a few other things. I've heard great things about the Divacup although I'm terrified to try it myself for the reasons you listed above, lol. You could always try wearing a tampon and a pad together though for now, if things get really bad ):

- I have a coil and it stops my periods full stop. I know this can be really awful to some women so IDK if that is something you would be interested in?

Yeaah I know what you mean. Before I started taking them and when I got switched to a different brand, I read reviews and there's so many that are like "I GAINED 50 POUNDS AND HAD SEVERE CRAMPS AND I'M DYING" etc etc, and they are pretty scary. But personally I've had a great experience with my pills, it's so nice to know when your period is coming and not having pants and underwear ruined x_x I did just notice your liver problem edit up there though, so it's understandable why you'd want to try something more natural.

As far as losing the divacup up there lol, I've only used it for one period and did have some trouble getting it out a few times, but from what I read if that happens you can just leave it in there for a little longer and it should be easier to get out the next time you try. And again, since it's not absorbing anything there's no risk of TSS if you leave it in for too long! I think mine was around $30 on amazon, pretty awesome deal if it works out for you.

Hmm..Let's say both? :/ I never had any issue except my liver being weird(and I strongly hate the fact that it may cause something worse). I never saw a gyno because it makes me want to puke every time.I am not comfy at all..to show my body part to someone.

Is this an IUD?I heard it's not soo good.

Yes.I mean..I like my liver you know ;u; But it was a delicious pleasure to know when my periods will show up tho. It seems interesting..but..I'm still afraid xD? And anyway: pads are no good.It makes my skin dry,I get many infection and well..let's pass.

I'm not sure then ): perhaps you'll be able to find info online or in a book or something about more natural or herbal cures/treatments that won't cause you liver damage?

Your amount of blood though definitely seems unusual, so perhaps try to see a general practitioner if you don't feel comfortable seeing a gyno yet. Seeing a gyno for me was pretty nerve-wracking at first too since you know... having some random lady feel my boobs and look ~ down there ~ sounds horrifying, but it's over within a couple minutes and they do try and make it as quick and less-awkward as possible. But if you absolutely can't, like I said a general doctor might have some insight because you sound like your blood flow is unusually heavy.

An IUD is an intrauterine device that can stop pregnancy for up to a few years at a time, I believe. It's a small metal or plastic piece inserted in the uterus. I'm not too savvy on all the details, but it might be a good idea for you to look into one, although you would likely have to see a gyno to get it.

Yep.Or..I might just try that horrifying Divacup thing ;u; Because I really can't stand the feel of heavy flow pads if I don't take my pills. I already told my practitian and it was him who decided to give me a second prescription.I stopped the pills for a month, took a blood test and my liver was back to normal. So: It seems like the pills is not good for me,sadly. Well yeah, just laughing or coughing and it just..float in my pads :/

Hmm.According to some website,it doesn't really help to reduce blood.

Trying it couldn't hurt (: If you don't like it, then there are always other options to explore. Yeah, pads are pretty cumbersome, which is why personally I use tampons. Do you/have you considered using tampons and pairing one up with maybe a thin panty liner just as backup? That way you won't have to deal with pads since they are kind of icky.

Yeah, if it's affecting your liver I see why pills aren't a good long-term solution. Definitely try divacup then, who knows, you may just like it!

It's definitely something you have to try out to decide if it works for you, maybe if you have some extra money consider ordering one? As for the suggestions of other birth control methods, I'm pretty sure the pill is the only one that for sure regulates periods so unless you got lucky and had no periods I dunno how those would work out for you...as for blood flow I dunno if other methods help with that at all. They seem much more random on the side effects you get ._.

- Yeah its the thing they /put/ inside of you. It is one of the only birth control methods I have ever used that has not given me any negative side effects (had it in for 4 years now). Unless you could not bleeding a negative side effect lol!

It also does not do anything with my mood either which is nice.

Worth looking into c:

I can't have tampons because of my sensible skin.It causes so many infection and eczema down there..it's horrible. (Mostly because of the chemicals in pads and tampons)

Maybe! But it still leave me with the "irregular cycle" issue.

Mom would be glad to help me.She wasn't grossed out at all about reusable pads. She's afraid that I'll be like I used too when I wasn't using pills.According to doctors my flow is normal.I don't need to change my pad during the night (but when I wake up..I better run to the bathroom or omfg it's flowing like water). I used to wear 2 pads when I was out..because one wasn't enough.

It's much more creepier than..the divacup xD

- It is creepy! And it was painful to have... 'installed' (lol) but now I do not have to worry about anything day to day anymore. Although it will have to come out one day which terrifies meeee.

Bleh yeah, sleeping through the night on periods has always been terrible for me. I'd get those extra long ones and still end up bleeding through a lot of nights :/ With the cup I didn't notice any leakage when I slept with it in...I can't remember how much liquid it's able to hold but I believe the statistic said that it held about as much as the average female bleeds through her whole period, so even with a heavy flow it would probably be okay overnight. If not then I'd probably reconsider doctors since that is an intense period lol.

- I had heavy flow/mood swings/ bad cramps (would be in bed in pain for days) general crap and lameness. It has been so much better for the past 4 years since having it though. So it is totally worth the pain/awkwardness of having it put in.

I hope you do find something that works for you though!

I'm not bleeding thru during the night,it's really when I wake up in the morning x.x .. Or when I laugh/cough omfg it's like water I'm not even kidding :| When I take my pills,it's alright. Do you think that..there is a chance that it came back to normal u.u??

Hmm..interesting heavy flow wise. And thank you for helping me :)!

Before you do anything, you need to talk to your doctor. Asking for advice here is fine but your doctor knows you and your body better. I've been on the pill for 8 years due to periods from hell and I've had very little problems. I tried seasonal birth control pills and decided it wasn't for me and went back to Microgenstin 1.5/30. I've had no problems with that pill. I recently found out I probably have Endometriosis and the hormones from the pill stop the extra tissue growth and help with the painful cycles and the horrible bleeding.

But there's a chance your cycle will go back to normal. When you are younger, your body is crazy and your cycles can be really bad. But before you stop taking your pill, please talk to your doctor.

Apologies if I repeat what others have already said, I've only skimmed the many replies. ^_^

Although people refer to "the pill", people often overlook the fact that there are lots of completely different contraceptive pills, that work in different ways, based on different drugs (with different side-effects). You might be able to switch to one that would match your body's needs more.

You should definitely look into using a menstrual cup, regardless of how heavy your periods. I absolutely swear by them - so much less messy and generally unpleasant than pads. Or if you come off the pill and find yourself back to heavy periods, it can of course be used in conjunction with pads - something I had to do for a while, when I had a medical problem that caused insanely heavy bleeding. During that time my Mooncup was pretty much a lifesaver; I would've been virtually housebound without it (the blood loss was that excessive). The only downside to it IMO is that it can be awkward if you have to empty/clean it in a cramped public toilet cubicle with no attached sink, but that's not unworkable with preparation (e.g. bottle of water/antibacterial wipes).

There are various forms of semi-permanent contraceptives, that I won't pretend to be able to offer useful advice on. As of last year, I've been fitted with a Mirena coil. Although I suppose it's early days yet, thus far I've had no problems with it, and went from aforementioned insane levels of bleeding (the unidentified medical problem that prompted the gynaecologist to offer the coil as a potential solution in the first place), to virtually no bleeding ever after a few months. There are others - implants, injections - that I know almost nothing about, other than that they exist.

Really you should see a gynaecologist and discuss all the possibilities with someone who really knows what they are talking about, and can reference your medical records to tailor the advice to your specific needs. (I understand your discomfort at the idea, but just talking things over won't necessarily require an examination. Perhaps you could take a trusted friend with you for moral support.) My experience is that regular doctors are generally useless/uneducated/don't really care about contraceptive issues. There are so many options, and what works for one person may cause problems for another (and vice versa) so anecdotal evidence/advice gathered via the internet is of very little use...

I know.We actually wait for my next blood test.If the liver problem is still here..well we will have to do something because now I'm not really "happy" with what I have :(

Was the mooncup really useful?I heard it's hard to..remove it though.I never used tampons except once and it was horrible. But yeah, seeing a gyno seems important atm because I have my periods since I'm 13.I'm 19 now and if I don't take the pills,I get 7 days of strong flow it's disgusting.
