I think it's a little too easy to complete the epicon challenge when we can easily press the hint button repeatedly until every single square is full. Even though there won't be an sp gain, it still gives you a point in the requirements box, and this needs to be fixed in order for there to actually be a challenge. It's true that you can just ignore the hint button, but most people are just going to take the easy way out.
I didn't realize you could hint your way through it but I definitely don't think it's fair! I think there should be a time limit or a limit to the number of hints you get a game.
If you don't get the points for completing games with hints does that mean it doesn't count as a 'win' you might not be able to get bonus points by using the hints.
Or just allow a maximum of say 10 hints; 1 hint for each point you can get from the game.
Although, that won't necessarily stop people from breezing through it at the speed of sound.
I don't think capping the hints at 10 is necessarily the best way to go through it - I'm just absolutely terrible at puzzles like this. I fail to see the proper patterns for whatever reason, despite usually being very quick at puzzles, and I don't think I've yet to complete the grid of 81 without at least 10 hints, on top of the numbers already provided, often just because I'm trying to get a hint on one PARTICULAR part of the board and yet it's giving randomly generated hints.
I don't mind only getting 2-3k payout for using more hints, because each game is still taking me over half an hour of actual brain-busting frustration, but limiting to 10 hints would probably kill me, unless we could specify what square we wanted the hint for
yeah I think 10 hints is fine. definitely we can not leave it at unlimited hints; that's ridic.
10 per game/ o.o i am the worst person at sudoku. ever. maybe after you get so many right, or if you pay for a hint after 10, i dunno. even after 10, it seems impossible for me. is just pressing hints cheating right now or is it just frowned upon/ i don't want to wake up tomorrow to see 1/4th the users banned lol
Kind of glad I'm not the only one that's teh suxxor xD But seriously, I feel like I just had OUTRAGEOUSLY GREAT LUCK on the last game I played (btw I'm only just now struggling through my 5th game, guys...I've been at it for over four hours, and I am not an unintelligent person), I got over 6k on my reward, and I still think I probably used 12 or 13 hints. I also don't mind the notion of paying past a certain amount, but honestly, for the people who struggle with this kind of game but don't want to be completely shut out, 10 randomly placed hints seems reeeeeally extreme to me.
- lol, it's okay. xD i bet you are smart too. sudoku is just one of those things that rattles the brain. it's weird, unique, and from another country. it's good to know that someone played as honest as they could, but still used hints so they could complete it and were honest about it. 4 hours!? :o you are the perfect example now of why 10 is not enough! NOT ALL OF US ARE SCHOLARS OR SUDUKO ADDICTS! @
They just cut it down to 5 hints per game.
Welp I'm fucked. Done for the weekend.
I just assumed it was a glitch or a fuck-up that the staff were not aware of. I tried the hints thing once just to see how many we were allowed and couldn't believe it when it filled in the whole thing for me. I felt bad about it so I sent in a ticket.
Now I daren't even play the game in case I get warned for abusing a glitch as I've essentially grassed myself up. I didn't know that everyone knew about the hints thing and was abusing the hell out of it LOL.
It really should be limited to a certain amount of hints per day, it's ridiculous that it finishes the game for you.
Edit: Oh they fixed it? That's great, and 5 hints is perfectly reasonably imo (and I say this as someone who completely fails at the game). I can go and play it again now. :D
- oh. :C yeeeeaaaah i'm done too. hope the game of the day tomorrow isn't this. still, kudos for trying to play as honest as you could. i'll go sit in the dunce corner now. -walks away with head hanging down-
I don't think it's fixed? I can still spam the hints button.
I don't know I think the standard 3 hints is enough if we're putting numbers to it. Look my current board started with 30 numbers filled in. That's almost 40% of the board. I need 51 more pieces put in, give me 10 hints and you're giving me almost 20% of the pieces I'm supposed to fill in. I don't think the hints should give you that much help, especially since each number filled in is pretty much helping you with half a dozen other numbers on the board.
If you really have trouble with the game you use the notes and go through the number 1-9. Check each box, if that box doesn't have a 1 note a 1 wherever it can go, do that for all the the boxes then go back and do it to 2 and then 3 and all the way up until 9. In Sudoku there are normally boxes where from the beginning only 1 number can go there and there are normally boxes where although 3 or 4 numbers can go there one of the numbers can't go in any other space in the nine section box. As you start to fill that in you can always just eliminate from your other notes what can/can't go there and really if you do it like that (though it's longer and more tedious) then pretty much anyone over the age of 13 should be able to get the answer even if they aren't good at puzzles.
10 is not one for each point because you'd get 10 hints each game which is 100 hints throughout the ten points. I also don't think they can program the game to give you 10 hints a day or anything.
Apparently I misunderstood points, then. I thought we got 10 points for effort per game (plus 10 for winning), so 1 hint would take away 1 effort points, etc. Guess I was wrong.
No for all the games it's up to 10 for 10 plays that's how it was for stealth bomber too :) We were told though that 1 point of a game might not equal 1 epicon point though because they'll decide how many epicon points each 'point' for the different games should get based on how many people played that game and other statistics and things.
You guys Like, I can't even ping everybody here, that's rude, but
- sb understands we all aren't wizzes with numbers! ^_^ thank you for the ping! :o
Oh thank goodness. Maybe it'll be like, easy/medium/hard with fewer hints for the higher ones? Idk. But 5 hints is not nearly enough for me either haha
5 hints is a lot more harsh since I realized that you wont' get a hint in a space that has notes in it. So um, y'know, I can't do what I'd been WORKING on of "I'll just put a note of every possible number and as I figure the other spots out, take away the numbers it couldn't be". Well.
Early on I finished one game with only one hint. So I spent a whole lot of time trying to see if I could get more sp by using not hints at all. Then realized I just got lucky that 1 time because even though I could get close to complete with no hints, I always had to use hints in order to finish the ten games today. Finally did it but I don't feel proud of my style.
Now, a month later, I am usually able finish with no hints at all. But luck on the number of digits supplied as initial hints does make a difference.
