I've only been here a few months, so I'm still getting a feel for the rules and conventions.

One thing I'm confused about is overlays. Ive read that they cant be drawn to misrepresent what color a pet actually is, but often the spotlight winners do just that.

Im not going to list any actual specific pets, but a completely made up example would be a spectrum antlephore whose overlay is a regular brown reindeer. Since there are other antlephore colors in a similar theme of the overlay, how does that fit within the rule?

As another example, can a non glade pet have an overlay with lots of greenery, butterflies, etc? Can a pet have a rainbow somewhere in its overlay or profile if it isnt spectrum or blacklight?

I'm asking this not to villify other pets, but to get a clear understanding of the limits before I start to draw my own overlays.

Thanks for any help!

I think you're safe as long as you aren't using the official art. Like say, you put the official image for a spectrum bumbus on your common bumbus. That you can't do, since it's tricking people into thinking your pet is spectrum. Otherwise, I think you can use your own art for whatever you want as long as the species, color, gender and owner info are present on the profile and not altered in any way. Like with the anthlephore you used for an example - maybe the spectrum thing has to do with the pet's personality. Like, my Harkon is a graveyard magnus, but his profile is the coloring that would match a bloodred pet. The graveyard matches better, since his vampire lord form is a gargoyle thing. (I know... Skyrim fag over here...) But, again, as long as the real info is listed and you're not using an official image that doesn't match for an overlay, I think you're fine.

Well, going by the rules, you're fine. But I don't get why people spend the sP on a spectrum potion if you're overlay's gonna look like a cheap color anyway. :x But yeah, I've seen it happen. And the opposite where the pet is blatantly glade themed but actually field or something because they couldn't afford the glade potion/whatever.

Lorelei has is correct and what you thought is CLOSE....

The actual rule is:

Quote

You may NOT use an image of an existing Subeta pet in an attempt to falsely depict your pet. This means that you are not allowed to use the image of a Glade Kumos to cover up the pet art of your Common Kumos, for example. The exception to this is that if your pet has been revamped, you may use the old Subeta art of that same color and species to cover up the new art.

If you read the board below, it goes into detail on things like changing the colors on a glacier overlay and being able to use it on a non-glacier pet...etc.

[topic not found]

So basically, you cannot use an UNCHANGED OFFICIAL overlay on a pet that is not that color.
