So for the last three years my diet has been whittling down from: I could do better, to... Okay I think I might be ill. Shit. Er... I can barely choke down a pot of noodles any more, I eat about 1/4 to 1/3 of dinner, no breakfast and 5 a day = 5 a week if I'm lucky and I live on sugar/caffeine to keep me going. For obvious reasons this can't continue, as far as general intake and fruit/veg I can up that but I wanted some more specific advice...

I've always been a pretty oily person, and I have this face stuff as suggested by the doc to keep my face clear, but with my diet so poor it's fighting a loosing battle, and it's kind of getting me down looking like a whimpy 14 year old still =_=; and I wanted to know if there was anything specific I could be adding/removing to and from my diet to encourage clearer skin -- beyond just eating better generally, which I'm starting on today.

I don't have anyone else to ping, maybe you know how to fix my face XD (and make sure I don't go back to not eating ;_; ) okay late for college now... runs off

okay, i will see if i can translate it right *has so many things to advice for skin and diets and stuff XD

oily skin: things you should not use/do

  • things with alcohol
  • oily handcremes
  • hot water - the water should be lukewarm
  • you should not try to clean the oil off, since it is a point in protecting your skin, the sebaceous glands will try to produce more oil

things you should do

  • cleaning the skin ever so often
  • you should try to use soap-free washing-gels (you can get some in the apothecary), since the soap itself clogs the pores and for oily skin (it's a pretty sensitive skin) it is the worst thing, since the skin will produce more oil
  • one or two times a week a peeling is pretty good, but as well not with soap or alcohol-peeling gels
  • also good for oily skin is a creme with lactic acid, since it cleans the pores

and for the diet?.. what is the problem there c:?

I remember that I would start to break out when I was eating too much candy/junk food. Taking after my dad didn't help my case at all either (oily skin ftl). I stopped eating junk, skin started to clear up. Other than that, I just wash my face twice a day (or more if I feel like I need to) with a bar of soap and warm water. I use this little circular face loofah. Splash with cold water once I get all the soap off. I would also use this apricot scrub, but only if I was breaking out badly. If I use it when my skin is pretty much clear, it starts to irritate my skin x: My eating habits are just bad, so I can't really give much advice about that. I rarely ever eat breakfast (seriously, maybe.. five times a year, if that?). I always have a sandwich for lunch. Whatever mom makes for dinner. Minimal snacking on junk since too much = hardcore break outs. I usually stick to fruit for a snack x: -is not the best person to ask about things like that- ^_^; It's okay, we can look 14 together -pats- I've gotten so used to being mistaken for 12-15 years old that it pretty much goes in one ear and out the other at this point x__x

Omg stuffs you with fruits and veggies

I'm not going to try to lecture you on that because you obviously already know how bad it is to your health, so yep. Fix that x_x When I was in college I lived a shitty life full of stress and crappy food, and all it got me was gastritis and a couple other issues quite as bad. So don't do that anymore D: Really, it can get much worse than bad skin condition! And I mean much worse. stares at you

I'm probably not the one to go for specific oily skin advice, as I've always had combination skin and rarely ever broke out -- except for the last few months when I had some hormonal imbalance, but for that same reason it couldn't have been helped by anything I'd do/eat anyway ._.

Regardless, Lyriel has some good points: all of the things she mentioned as "not use/do" are indeed the ones that get the skin to produce more oil. If you "remove" the oil like that, the skin will "understand" that the hydration level is too low and will thus produce more oil as fast as possible. It is annoying (I know I have very little patience for that myself), but if you can, try to keep a cleansing schedule of washing/hydrating skin at least twice a day? :) Of course, it'd have to be soap-free/oil-free stuff. Anyway, moving on!

Sher also has a good point in avoiding too many unhealthy snacks/junk food/excess of carbs/generally 'greasy' food, as that is an easy way to get your skin to break out! Same goes for lots of candy, because sugar hits the bloodstream really fast and that + the greasy food will definitely clog your skin.

I don't recall having heard of any food to help specifically with oil control, although I've heard plenty of times that vegetables/fruits/some milk products (like yogurt) are the skin's best friends ;P Actually, even more than any of these, WATER is your skin's best friend. Get tons of that ^_^

So yeah, I totally see a combination of many things there. You're most likely stressed, running on lack of sleep, eating empty carbs and ingesting a huge amount of sugar, which all result in poor skin condition :c I just hope you don't smoke on top of that x_x

Physical activity is of course desired, but lol, I'm guilty of not doing a lot of that myself because, well, life. But it's good to improve circulation and make things work better, generally :P Skin included.

Aw, well you can always ping us, maybe we won't be super helpful but we promise we'll try ❤️ Now, I don't think we know "how to fix your face" (or make sure you eat properly) as much as you do! SERIOUSLY. shakes you Don't wait until something goes horribly wrong and you're in pain (if it didn't happen already!) to get something done :x

Hmmmmm well I can only parrot what others have told me hehe as I'm not really all that knowledgeable

My brother's wife has skin that practically oozes oil....she has these special wipes that she uses all throughout the day that removes the oil she uses this Wipes except she uses the women's version. She says it really helps shrugs

As for what other little things you can do, one of my doctors used to constantly tell me never touch your face with your hands because that's just making your face dirtier, drink LOTS of water lots and lots of it, it apparently cleanses the body shrugs and you might want too find skin care products for oily skinned people, it makes a difference.

Other than that I would suggest eating healthier, never eat junk food, fast food, candy, and lower your sugar intake....you'd be surprised just how much that helps....I gave all that up for a month and it helped my skin a lot....I even lost the craving for junk food...I rarely ever eat it anymore. Maybe better your diet...eat more fruit, vegetables, less bread substances like noodles and other things like that because it actually turns into sugar in your body. Also if/when you start eating breakfast make sure you check the ingredients list on the stuff you buy, eggs are always a good choice and if you do have bread get the whole grain kind...it's a lot better for you. Maybe you should take a multi vitamin? Idk

Oh one thing Blanche said about yogurt helping skin....it really does...milk products I believe help, but make sure not to get a yogurt with too much sugar....it can be quite surprising just how mush sugar it has.

Hope that helps even a little c:

  • If sugar makes your skin break out more, you might want to eat mostly veggies (instead of fruits) to get vitamins. I remember someone once telling me that fruits are like sugar water with vitamins. :P
  • If you drink mostly coffee for caffeine, try this: drink a cup of coffee in the morning (or whenever it is you need your first "fix"), then green tea when you next feel like you need more caffeine. Keep drinking green tea during the day. Of course, there are a lot of people who hate green tea, or don't know how to make good green tea, so you might want to read this and maybe this.
  • Put 1-5 drops of tea tree oil into your facewash. In the whole jar/bottle, that is! It's very strong and you should never apply it to your skin without mixing it up with something first. If it irritates your skin, it's not a product you want to use, however. :/

I also have oily skin and I just deal with it by washing twice a day with some product I can't remember the name of. I do have quite a healthy diet, though, it just comes naturally to me - except that I love sugar. Nowadays I only eat candy when I read a book. :D My skin started clearing up when I turned 19, but it still gets awful if I don't wash it everyday.

No hot water... I will bare that in mind /always used to use hot, will now use lukewarm I don't use anything with alcohol in it or oil anyway so that's cool No soap I FREAKING TOLD MUM THAT JUST MADE IT WORSE HAHA! cough sorry, vindicated >_> plain ol' soap has always made my face feel dry and... tight... so I always presumed it wasn't good for me. Well diet can have a huge impact on the quality of your skin, if only indirectly, since my current situation is... little to no good food and 4-6 hours sleep a night... I'm not healing well, so any spots aren't clearing up nicely and newer ones are more likely to appear =S

Yeah I take after my dad too OTL he's a greasy bugger. I'm cutting down on junk food like /majorly/ now, I mean so long as I can stabilise my diet to something healthier I will, hopefully, sleep a bit better, and won't need the constant sugar intake == though I'm not counting out sugar in my tea >>

Fruits and veg make me feel so ill though OTL I'm insanely picky about what apples I'll eat, and which I can and can't can literally change over night, so it's pot luck if I'll pick one up and happily chow down or if it'll make me gag. Bananas are 50/50. I can only eat oranges if I'm out in the Mediterranean =| I like the taste of grapes but they make me feel sick after like... 6... I won't tough any veg bar carrots (raw) or potatoes (and even then it's not always given) and... sometimes sprouts. For like a month I went off bell peppers to the point where they made me gag, but thankfully I'm back on them. I won't touch any cooked veg other than that unless it's mixed in with other stuff and it needs to be A LOT of other stuff. I like Chinese Wood Fungus, but that's the only fungus I've found I'll eat... I'm... upping how much water I drink but I have the same issue with water as veg =| sometimes... thankfully I can drink the water from the dispensary at the airport by the gallon, it agrees with me, so I've switched to that instead of the crappy tea XD more water in my diet can't be abad thing from any perspective. Lol no I'm not a smoker XD my dad is, so I've grown up knowing what would await me if I started -- and neither he or I have good lungs in damp weather so I'm ALREADY coughing when the air turns moist, he's bloody horrendous. Yeah I'm gonna... try... to get myself walking /up/ the hill in the afternoons, not just down in the mornings (it's about a mile and a half to the bus stop in the mornings) at least while it's cool and dark /screw summer I'm getting the bus...

But there isn't anything to be done D= I have bad knees, and my hip is still aching from my accident (though I can run on it now without the muscle popping/tearing so that's a good thing it's getting there! WHOOP! And last night my sinuses were just idk WHAT they were doing, but it felt weird. The problem is my hip doesn't like me to be in a relining position so I'm fine all day then I go and lie down to sleep and it's like SCREW YOU! But as I said, getting better ^^; The only other thing is strain in my arm. And in all cases the doc will only tell me what I already know and what they've told me before: rest and anti-inflammatory, of the latter I'm careful with, my dad is almost immune to Paracetamol he takes to much, I'm not doing the same with Ibuprofen =_= so I put up with it up the point I can't any more, and of the former... well I've made some progress. /I'm falling apart omg can I have mechanical limbs now plz?

The others are right about the removing the oil stuff, if you /keep/ doing it it will seem to help, but your body will try to compensate for it -- its there for a reason after all. The stuff the doc suggested I try does dry out my skin initially, but it's main purpose is actually to tackle bacteria. God yes! I need to stop leaning on my hands, I try, like... leaning on a sleeve instead, but sometimes I find myself leaning on my hand and I get so annoyed with myself =_= summer is the worst with short sleeves. I can't (okay WON'T) cook here, the kitchen... shudders I'd have to throw out half my landlady's stuff just to get to the cooker... And she's allergic to eggs, which SUCKS because I freaking love them OTL. I have quite a bit of milk in my diet already P= yogurts I'm a but funny with, but I'll try my hand at some less sugary ones winces

As I was saying to Sher, most veg, or all veg in larger amounts makes me feel really ill ;_; I am trying harder with fruit which I have more luck with though ^^; Fruit is really good, it's got all the sugars in it that your body needs but they're not the fast hitting types we put in sweets. I used to know all the proper names for this stuff, all the different types of sugars and what they were good for I fail at retaining biology knowledge shame on me. I don't touch coffee, I'm a tea drinker ^^; I have one in the morning (used to have more, but replaced with water), one at lunch, and one or two in the afternoon. I'm not gonna vary my face wash until I can't get this stuff any more (like with everything I find that works, including food/drinks, the moment I start buying it the shops stop stocking it), it strong arse peroxide based stuff and tackles the bacteria, works well so long as the rest of my lifestyle isn't screwing things up, but I don't really fancy adding anything to something this strong ^^; I already use it less than the doc suggested. Mostly I think it's a diet issue, I'm incredibly run down and ill with it these days so it's about bloody time I pulled myself together and starting finding ways to eat better -- I'm restricted so long as I'm here as I'm not cooking for myself, but at least I can eat more fruit / stuff I don't need to cook and/or refrigerate and there is nothing stopping me from cutting down on sweet stuff looks longingly at sugar other than my own addictions XD

I see. Well, fruits and tea are good. :) It's really hard to find a face wash that works for you, I totally understand you not wanting to add anything into it. ^^ It took me years to find the product I use now, but I find it's even more effective with tea tree oil. But that's just me.

Hmm, how about nuts? And tuna (or other fish. I suggested tuna because you don't have to cook it)? Also grapefruit and carrots are good for oily skin, if I remember correct.

Ahh, I saw your link above and thanks! I kept trying to take green tea regularly, since everyone says it's the best for detox, but I couldn't get over how it tastes like grass to me D: I'll definitely look for some leaves and see if I can make it any better ^_^

õ_o Fruits and veggies make you healthy, not ill! You just don't like the taste of them :P

Eyebrow face apart, that sounds like the classic case of someone who never ate their veggies and has trouble bringing them into their diet xD You sound even a bit pickier than I was (I mean, is there even a logic behind your apple choice? :P Of course I'm aware there are several types of apples and bananas, but once someone likes one of them, they tend to... stick to them?), but it's a matter of getting used to things (: I think I saw someone say once that we're too used to the amazing artificial tastes created by industry that we can't accept "natural" tastes anymore D: While this feels a bit cliché, there's some truth there...

Heh, I considered editing my other post because you're evidently not going to manage eating a dish full of veggies tomorrow, that's the kind of thing that comes slowly. Baby steps ftw xD I'm aware that getting stuff is probably easier for me than it might be for you (as we have like ALL FRUITS available easily, I can just go out and buy mangos, pineapples, peaches, pears, tangerines, passion fruits, etc) but yeah, start wherever you can, with whatever is being sold on the season. If you can take six grapes, then take six grapes as often as you can, because six grapes is better than no grapes ;) It might look a bit ridiculous for the other people but WHO CARES xD I still remember my friends poking me because my dish was always yellow/white/orange-ish colored (they called it 'light pastel colors') and then poking me because I was eating ONE insert some green veg here but I was like YEAH WELL I AM TRYING GO AWAY!

Of course I still have a loooong way to go especially regarding green vegs (I always feel like I'm eating grass lol n_n) but I wouldn't have gotten anywhere if I hadn't started taking a bite of whatever I could, whenever I could (: So I guess that's what I can say, you need to put a continuous effort in there and it won't happen overnight. It's not because you don't like something that you should skip it completely and look for other alternatives because well, the alternatives are limited and you don't like anything :P So gotta start with whatever you tolerate better, even if just a bite xD

because this is kinda unuseful but still related so I wanted to type anyway So I have this friend who only eats macrobiotic food and she called me for a lunch some time ago (gotta hate when the only contact with your friends is a lunch here and there... /sobs) in her favorite restaurant. Some other friends declined because they can't eat that food period (most of the time they don't even serve any sort of meat) and I was like "gotta gooo idk when I'll see her again idc if I starve today" so I went. Then I looked at the food. And the food looked back at me asking if I was gonna leave it untouched there. Then she said I had to try it with an "open heart" (major lol moment) and I didn't want to look like a whiny kid so I tried andd most of it was actually good :D Of course I can't eat many of the things they serve in such places, but I've learnt that my baby steps are working AND that even the ickiest veggies can taste good if they're cooked right ^_^ Then everyone else asked me how it went and how I could eat that HAHA

Smaller changes do make a difference (like exchanging normal white rice for brown rice) and can be easier to deal with on a regular basis ^_^

I'm kinda scared/wary of eating fungus-type food for some reason, but if you can, great o.o

I... don't get that thing with water LOL. Here it's not like the US where people can drink tap water, but we can just get something to filter tap water and it's fine and tastes pretty much the same everywhere o_o Guess you must find some "good" water then... at least two liters of it, but the more the merrier XD

Good! Although your sentence leaves a bit of room for contradiction, since if he's a smoker you can technically be a passive smoker and that's still quite bad -- so here's to hoping he doesn't keep spitting smoke on your face when you're at home xP

Meh. I've had my fair share of breathing problems and that only gets better with physical exercise, for improving the cardiovascular function. Although, again, if the person is a smoker, that's pointless :/

...I suddenly feel like a bitch because I complain the bus stop is two blocks away from my place x_x In which rural area do you even live :c

Oh yeah I had forgotten your terrible habit of always getting yourself into accidents n_n Having "bad knees" is probably more common than you think, and there is always some physical activity that won't put a lot of stress to them? Again, I think finding the proper conditions/place to exercise can be very tricky (and I definitely lack on that, given that I'm a lazy fat face myself) but if you really want you can do it. Guess you'd have to have some close supervision though, you seem really prone to accidents o.O Is that arm condition a result of your art works?

LOL no. You're not taking enough care of your current limbs (how do you plan to reach 80 like this? scratch that, how will you reach 40, even pokes) so you cannot get fancy mechanical stuff :P You'd let them get rusty because of not enough use!

No problem! :) I know a lot of people who drink awfully bitter green tea, because they either think the bitterness makes it healthier or they simply just accidentally oversteep it. Tea bags are even easier to oversteep than loose tea leaves. The taste of green tea might take some time to get used to - I know it did for me, but nowadays I crave for it. :D
