I am going to get a lap top PC since my mac is pooping out on me and can't seem to handle all the stuff I need to run at once for school.

I don't know what brand of laptop I should even look at tho ...I know I need a large RAM and Storage on the laptop (good graphics and speaker wont hurt) <3

I have a HUGE grudge against Dells Every Dell I have ever owned or seen was good until you started to download other programs before it starts to lag and complain about EVERY LITTLE THING! ... Anyway, I'm hoping the brand doesn't come with all those dumb little programs that you can't get rig of... and If it has very good wifi reading that would be the best! (one that doesn't take time to find ... like how on mac it is legit right there and doesn't even have to open a who new window.

oh and if it doesn't do that dang thing were it FORCED updating wile it is shutting down, that would be optimal if that even exists...

Kinda went on a rampage sorry... any way out of the brands YOU HAVE USED what would you suggest I was looking a levano (spelling) but my dad is all grudgy over the fact that they are from china and are a bit pricy for what they offer in the specs ( I would like to ague that it is because of the better material but I have no proof)

Oh and my price range is 500 tops (600 if it absolutely has to be) I prefer lighter colors to write on and a screen that is 13+ would help since I will be using art programs.

I'm also not a fan of Dell. They seem to be very hit and miss with me. :/

I had a Toshiba Satellite (15ish inch) for 2 years but I couldn't play things like The Sims 2 on it (let alone 3) without it overheating. But that's not what you want it for anyway so I'll shush about that. XD On the other hand it had Vista on it which is a shit operating system IMO (XP or W7 is much more preferable). The reason I got rid of it was because the overheating got out of hand (even while I was doing minor tasks) but I think that may also be down to the CPU which seemed to love running at 100% for like 20 minutes straight when I'd load it up some of the time.

I currently have a Sony Vaio SB (13.3 inch) on W7 which is pretty nifty and reliable though I don't know what your price points are. Quick to load and handles quite a few things at once, plus it's light and thin for portability. :) Mine's red because I love that colour but they come in different colours if you're into colour/bothered about the colour.

I'm also not sure this should be in debate. :P

No real care about color... but I do like a lighter color so I can write on it when I cant find paper fast and need it haha! (also like to write reminders to myself about the screen then erase them later.
I should put a price range up there since it is collage budget -.- (have been saving up for this tho)

I do use art programs a lot so probably will take up as much ram as a sims game when I run two or mare at once! (normally play low end games any way :c

Sorry thought it could be seen as debate

I've owned a Toshiba laptop since '10 (I got it for my birthday), it's chugged along without much issue since though I got a virus on it once that brick'd it for a day until I could bypass the virus itself and get that off. (Much to the virus creator's chagrin, I think.)

I can normally luck out with Chrome, Skype and Photoshop running plus have a YouTube vid going in the background on this without issue. Sims 3 Medieval likes to sit and look stupid at me but that's just my graphics card being a little wonky.

If you happen to go with a Toshiba, they have volume limits and I've yet to figure out how to undo mine. The speakers are actually rather shit on them.

Just my two cents. c:

Thank you and I'm sure I could always instal a better graphic card if ever needed (was debating about just getting separate speaker any way for things like movie nights (oh how rare they are) and forgot that was a problem with pc being the fact that they will get viruses and Trojans non stop with a non up-to-date protection and scanning program D:

If there's a way to put in a different graphics card on a Toshiba, another thing I haven't figured out, lmao. They're a bit strange when it comes to taking them apart.

My best advice on the antiviruses and stuff is to go with Windows Security Essentials and get Spybot Search and Destroy. Those are what my Dad and I use when we're repairing computers around town, they have yet to let us down when it comes to virus protection.

Oh cool thanks! :D wrote those programs down. Don't understand how a company could be so money hungry that they make it hard for costumers to do repairs themselves :/

The Sony Vaio handles TS3 smooth as anything. I have to admit I haven't used art-related programs on it yet so I can't comment on that.

Eek now you've put up a budget probably not the one I have. XD It was £740.

I have a three/four year old Dell laptop and it still acts like it's new. If you do proper maintenance on any laptop, you don't run into many issues.

Mind if I ask what you mean by that? Like de fragmenting every month, making sure what is saved on the comp you use, and virus scanning before shutting down preferably daily? idk that's what come to mind for me :/ (then again the dells I had were when xp was a new thing

It's Micro$oft. They go with Mitt RMoney (if you've ever seen the picture of him with his kids where they misspelled their name, you'll probably get that.)

Best of luck with laptop shopping. If you need help or anything, you can always leave me a comment. c:

Basically - and keep most of your files on an external hard-drive.

  • Defrag at least once a month (some take longer than others - mine takes about thirty minutes, but my brother's is only about... five.)
  • Free up disc space / Run the system maintenance
  • Run virus scans, a full-scan about once a month and a quick-scan when you feel it's needed. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to viruses.
  • Uninstall program's you haven't used in forever

And personally, I run the troubleshooter once and awhile to see what it says, although it probably isn't necessary. Not everyone needs to do all of this, but I see it this way: If you take care of it now, you're more than likely not going to run into issues that you don't know about.

The laptop I have fits all the requirements you're looking for, except it's a Dell Inspiron N5110...it's got great graphics (a little less so in games, but hardly a problem), decent speakers, decent RAM, and it rarely overheats, even when running a ton of programs at once. I uninstalled the glitchy media players it came with, like Dell Stage and SyncUP, and now it runs like a dream. The only real complaint I have is its compatibility problem with Bluetooth, but that's a Windows 7 thing, not Dell.

I've only ever used Dell computers and I never had a problem with them, but if you still don't want a Dell, then you can disregard my post.

[edit] Wow I meant to type N5110. -_-

Usually have problems remembering, but I could tape paper to it with my reminders written on it. :p

haha yeh I laugh so hard when I first say that XD heehee

I did too, but with Windows 7 it's all kind of in the same place like a checklist. I hope you find a good laptop. :)

I have a 17 inch acer aspire laptop. I've had it for almost 3 years and it runs perfectly still. It lags a bit with certain games, but other than that I haven't had any major problems with it.

I reformatted my laptop the summer before last, because it was getting a bit laggy and I wanted to start fresh again. It was back to normal after reformatting it. Both of my acers came with the capability to reformat the computer right from the start menu, so there's no need to order a CD.

The only downfalls with my specific laptop is the keys are raised, so dog hair and food crumbs have taken over the crevices in between my keys. My laptop also used to last 8+ hours when unplugged. Now, it only lasts about an hour or so before it shuts off without warning.

Whenever I need to buy a new laptop, chances are I'm going to go with acer again. This specific type was around $600, but it might have gone down since then.

edit- God. I don't even want to buy a new laptop now. I just realized all new microsoft laptops will have windows 8. I might buy a mac. I can't stand the look of windows 8, and it's received the worst reviews.

I'm planning on getting an Asus laptop in the coming months. I'm not a big computer buff so I couldn't tell you the details, but I've heard that Asus is one of the best brands out there. If I had a couple grand to blow I'd buy an Alienware though. Sadly I do not.

My friend had one for about a year (I guess in general they're kinda crappy) and I swooned over her rainbow back light for her keyboard. <3
