Ok then…I found a convention I really really want to go to this time net year.
I already checked, and the total price for hotel, plane, ticket for the convention, and some food (because I would like to have the energy to see things) and money to buy some stuff is about $700 (could go up though).
Thing is…I have no job right now (and the prospects of getting one don’t seem very likely right now).
I can make the things listed here: Oragami's Archives.
I still have about two weeks before I can re-apply at my old job, and there's no guarantee they will take me back. I get about $5 every other week from a neighbor for putting his groceries away after he goes to WalMart, and I have bits of change saved up (Maybe 50 cents right now.

My brother in law used to do focus groups and got some decent money from it, any where from $50-$100 depending on how long they were. Here there are some blood banks that pay you for blood, maybe there's some in your area. Odd jobs, like helping your neighbor, there could be other people in the area that need help with carrying groceries or cleaning or whatever. Recently I found a study for depression and they're paying $120 if I qualify. No meds involved they want to put me in an MRI and watch my brain while I do activities on a computer. I've done other studies that don't involve drugs. Hope you find something c:
See if there is a Food Testing place near your city. There's one not too far from me with other offices in New York, Chicago, and a few other states I think. I get called maybe once a month, sometimes more to do food taste tests. They're SUPER easy and usually no longer than an hour. The lowest I've been paid for one was $25, but I've been paid up to $100 to literally just eat food/drink beverages and answer questions about how well I like them. Look and see if there is one around where you live.
Donating plasma is also good for like... $30ish I think, and you can go in monthly. If your parents have friends with young children or you know someone with young children, get the word out that you're free to babysit. I used to make around $10 an hour babysitting for my neighbor's kids when they would go out at night- it was basically $60 a night just to watch TV in their living room while the kids slept lol. Make fliers and post em around your neighborhood for babysitting, dog-walking, or lawn-mowing.
I forgot to mention I'm in a little bitty town, less than 500 people I think that's 60 miles from a town of any size. I don't go there too often, maybe twice a month. To be able to sell plasma at the 'clinic', you have to get there REALLY early. LIke, several hours before it opens. Tried it once, and when they were doing the 'pre-tests'...My temperature was like .2 degrees higher than they would allow XD.
I like the ideas, but like I said...tiny town, can't do much of anything. There's no kids around here that I can babysit, the 'room cleaning' I do for the manager of the apartments is taken out of the rent I owe.

One of the things that sucks about living in a small town there's not much to do. :/ Hopefully your last job will take you back. I know what it's like to really want to go to something and not have the money, I live in a busy city and still have trouble finding some kind of income.
That can definitely be problematic :C I guess your best bet is getting the word out that you are available to do chores like the ones I listed in my last post. If your neighbors are too far then I honestly have no idea. Selling artwork online perhaps?
If you haven't set up a shop on Etsy, you can advertise your things there as well.
If I had finished out my probation at my first job in this town, i'd be ok because they're taking applications. But the supervisors in my area were a bunch of dicks, and the other place (that im trying to go back to) has a 6 month wait before you can re-apply. And I think that runs out the end of the month?
My drawing skills are well...EPIC FAIL! The neighbor I helped out today with his groceries said he'd pay me to clean some stuff in his room (Microwave, bathtub, toilet) since he can't do it himself. He didn't say how much, but I'll take anything I can get.
From what I understand, Etsy has listing fees, which I can't afford right now. Maybe when I make another 'sale', and there's enough money in my PayPal account to put a few things on there. The reason I like Storenvy is because they don't charge for anything there.

Ahhh, all right. Sorry, I had no idea they had listing fees. Though you could advertise your work on Subeta if you have some CSC? Whip up a quick billboard or something showing off your works?
That's a good idea :D. The CSC was a bit more expensive than 'usual' (for me) when I last checked it, but I have a decent amount of sP saved up ^^

There are always small jobs out there. Getting rid of leaves or snow, trimming bushes, etc. if you can do yard work. Walking dogs. Car wash? Cleaning the local church? (They sometimes pay people for that.) Eh...that's all I've got for now, but you can also check the want ads. Or hey! Try buying and selling. That's what one of my neighbor kids did once. He scanned the ads for people selling bicycles, bought and fixed them up and resold them for a really good price. I'm not saying to fix up bikes, but the general idea is sound.
When pigs fly, I want to ride one.
I could try and see if the 'county paper' has any ad-space for free? Hmmm...

If you don't have the money, or means to acquire the money, you don't go. Simple as that. Surviving is more important than a trip that wont help you in the grand scheme of things.
Im a dude :0
Mechanical Turk is a semi-decent way to make some extra cash, I think I've made around $150-200 on there altogether. What it is is you do little tasks or surveys mainly for people doing research and stuff and you get paid a little bit of money for each task. Some are definitely way more worth doing than others, I generally put in 50 cents for the pay and sort them by time allotted to try to find the quickest ones that pay decently. If you're decent at writing little articles quickly there's some of those that pay a couple of dollars and ask for 300-600 words. It's by no means a substitute for even a minimum wage paying job, but since it sounds like you have some time and are looking for odd ways to make money I think this would be good for the moment. You do have to wait a day or two for your account to be verified after creating it though, and I'm not sure how complicated it is to transfer the money to your bank account since I've only used it for amazon purchases (which is what mechanical turk is owned(?) by), but I know you can do that.
I know that. I've already had to use what little cash I had saved to give to my mom for gas money. I had to give up my ipad to my aunt and uncle so they could pay off my mom's car and it wouldn't get repossessed.
I've tried that but it seems like every task I 'try out' for rejects me :(

That sounds bad. I had an ex friend buy me stuff to go to a con a few years ago. I paid him back though. >.>
Hmm, that's odd. Like you accept them and then you don't meet the focus group for surveys or something?
I think so, yeah. I picked a few simple ones, and got the reject email. I think I'll give it another try then. Even if I don't get the amount I need, I can get other stuff, like a proper bed/bed frame. (the one I have is ok, but id like a new one, and someone else could use what I have)

I clean a lady's house for £20 a week for 3 hours of cleaning, maybe you could find someone that needs some cleaning done? I know how expensive conventions can be! 2 years ago i went to the Supernatural con in Vancouver (im gonna assume youre saving for a Supernatural con by looking at your forum set??) and since i was coming from England, the flights were £750 return and then the hotel was about $600 and the ticket was $550 i think, and that didnt include any photoshoots i wanted or the location tour that i went on was $250 or something. I saved up for a year to go! I had a ticket to go to it again last year but i had quit my job by then and ended up not being able to save in time and had to sell me ticket :( Good luck getting the money together! It will be worth all the hard work in the end!

ALKSJDL:AJSD You went to VanCon? dies And you got a gold ticket? twitches I actually want to go to 221B Con in Georgia (for SHerlock if it's not obvious), although I might 'switch' to MegaCon in Florida.
There was a neighbor that paid my mom $10 a week to sweep and mop his room, but she hasn't done that in a few months...WOuldn't hurt to ask him I suppose. If I get about $75 to $100, I can get the 'doctors clerance' that my old job will want, and save up that way. I'd have to take a point or two depending...but L:ASJKDL:AKSJ
