So the Friend Feed got modified recently, which included removing headshots and formatting, and now it looks... not great. The gaps to indicate new points are enormous, and wouldn't be necessary if the formatting (the separating lines, text changes, etc) had stayed. I can handle it minus headshots, but as it stands now, it really isn't a useful feature to me anymore :c
Also, and I know this is a fairly petty point of interest, the code was modified so that you cannot block the sidebar advertisements using AdBlock without also screwing up the Friend Feed. Consider that when the sidebar advertisements were introduced, staff's literal first response was to tell us to use AdBlock -- not to remind us that GAs remove ads and support the site. "Yeah, use AdBlock to hide all the ads! Oh, except for that ad that messes with your sidebar. That one stays. LOL?" I'm sure it's a matter of improving the code and not a change whose sole purpose was to stymie AdBlock, but it still stings. XD
I find that the lack of clearly defined separation between entry is the bigger offender than the lack of headshots. Granted the headshots do make it easier for me to know who is who, but even then, it can take me a while to figure out which entry is which.

Agreed. The lack of headshots is comparatively minor, but in the absence of any other separator, it would suffice. I think. I'd rather just have boxes like before .__.
It's even more confusing to see the separation when two entries look the same. For example, when making my previous post on this thread, I saw two entries in my friend feed that had two different users, but they were both forum posts, both users have six character usernames, and both have a gold account icon. The fact that the time stamps look like another paragraph in a forum post really didn't help. I think the text is confined to a more narrow space before wrapping around too.

That's what I hate most. It also does this on the actual feed page http://subeta.net/feed.php
The friend feed isn't even showing for me anymore. :(
I don't use the sidebar widget for friend feed, but I do go to the actual friend feed page often and it looks pretty bad.
Why can't usernames be put beneath the headshot and the time be moved to either below the headshot at the bottom of the feed post or to the bottom right or the top right or something.
Also, I've said it once and I'll say it fifty+ more times, boxes within boxes look absolutely awful! That's opening another can of worms that staff hates hearing by now, I'm sure, but it's going to irk me til the end of time.

I really miss the lines between events on the Friend Feed widget. I agree with what others have said about the spacing issue--not just here but across the site. The recent revamps have added a lot of padding around forum posts, achievements, and other features. It makes it more clumsy to use the site (although I do appreciate the move away from tiny text)
I'm afraid I'm not liking it all. :(

What was the question?
I don't use the Widget but I noticed the changed appearance on the actual Friend Feed page. I agree that it looks weird but if it prevents the site from lagging and if the Friend Feed can stay on site instead of being erased for eating too much whateverisneeded then I'm okay with it looking sterile and meh.
Yours looks better than mine...

Mine is all messed up too - huge spaces and also a random box at the bottom, that doesn't have anything in it. Really hating it, tbh! Thinking of doing away with the widget if it's going to stay looking like this.

I agree. I don't mind the missing headshots (though they were useful in identifying users from one another). I mind the chunks of spaces.
While I will say that it looks a million times better than yesterday (when half a headshot was showing for each post o.O ), it still could do with some tidying....
I don't mind the lack of headshot, but surely the spacing could be tightened up a bit, with a (hr) line between each entry, without putting too much strain on the servers? At the moment, the spacing looks silly when compared to the other sidebar widgets (especially when compared to the quests one, which has nice, tight spacing).
And I'm not sure what the empty box at the base of the friend feed is meant to be, but it is reasonably annoying to see it sitting there all empty and unused :P

Well, I'm with the group of lacking Friend Feed. I kinda figured everyone had it ploof...I guess not :/
Mine looks exactly like 's. Curious, a couple days ago it was working normally... oh well.
You are probably using the old custom CSS ad blocking code, which now blocks chunks of the friend feed. Try disabling it and see if that brings the friend feed back :)
To get rid of the ads (like, all ads) without screwing up other stuff, here's the updated code thanks to :
/go away ads/
, ins#aswift_0_anchor, div center ins, , .create_ad, a[href^="/ad_click.php?"] img, .chitikaAdContainer, -inner-dash .ui.segment.basic[style="height: 200px;"] {display:none !important;}
You're mistaken.
The old adblock customCSS took the ad out of the sidebar but left a big gap.
, ins#aswift_0_anchor, div center ins, , .create_ad, a[href^="/ad_click.php?"] img, .chitikaAdContainer {display:none !important;}
The new adblock customCSS merely removes the gap that was there. The Friend Feed was and still is entirely unaffected.
, ins#aswift_0_anchor, div center ins, , .create_ad, a[href^="/ad_click.php?"] img, .chitikaAdContainer, -inner-dash .ui.segment.basic[style="height: 200px;"] {display:none !important;}
I could probably work out a temporary fix for the headshotless ugly friend feed though...
Oh! It was indeed part of my CSS, thank you xD (except I didn't know which bit, I didn't mark it at the time so it took me a few minutes of looking at it, haha)
...ok now I have the not great FF back. It... has so much random empty space. Omg. Less space and more actual dividers pls D:
[edit]
For reference, this was the bit that hid my friend feed:
.ui.segment.basic {display: none;}
Tbh I don't remember why I put this there n_n But I normally dont mind most things so idk, something must've really bothered me. I also have codes for floaters, to keep the footer in place and small fixes like that.
Hum, I have no idea. I was using the sidebar widget, no custom CSS whatsoever. Now that widget is just empty and can't be expanded to show anything.
EDIT: AH, figured it out. But I really, really hate the new friends feed. It's so very hard to read. Bah!!!
