As one commenter said, you can't recall stupid.

This has got to be the most ridiculous baby related recall. It should be common sense not to put these or any other corded device within the reach of a child. Seems to me if they don't have enough common sense not to install it within a child's reach they don't have enough common sense to heed a warning label.

I can understand putting warning labels on newly manufactured ones, but not preexisting models.

Because God knows it is SO HARD to you know, CHECK ON YOUR KID YOURSELF. I NEVER had a baby monitor, neither did my mother, nor any of my sisters or brother with kids. What a god damn stupid idea. If you're too lazy and stupid to raise your kid your own god damn self, then you shouldn't even be having them, let alone using a CORDED THING to watch them ? Good move, you fucking morons. Shameful babies had to pay the price for your own stupid lazy ass.

I think that anything can be bad in the wrong hands.

I wouldn't have heard my daughter's cries in the middle of the night had it not been for a baby monitor because I can sleep through anything. The fire alarm doesn't even faze me and it's almost on top of my house. They're a great tool if you're not relying soley on the tool to check on your child.

Maybe the Mayan people meant that 2012 would be the end of people not using common sense , and having the FDA bail them out of their stupid funk.

No shit Sherlock :/

You know what would stop that? Ductape. And lots of it. If you ductape the cord to the wall or what ever- there's no way a baby/toddler is going to pull it off. I have I hard time pulling off well applied ductape- and I'm an adult!

I really can't believe some people. You need a warning label to know that cords + kids + railings are a bad thing? Really now?

I didn't have a baby monitor for my kids, they slept in our room until they were a few months old, and then the slept in the room next to us, and if they cried, the house was quiet, and I heard them. Let them cry, and if they kept at it for awhile, checked on them, settled them, and went back to bed.

I dunno. I really don't know about some people

Have you ever had a baby and be a heavy sleeper? My brother's crib was in a separate room and even with the door open it could be hard to hear him when he cried. That's what the Baby Monitor is for, or, lets say the baby is asleep upstairs/downstairs and you're in the kitchen, and it's just you. You have to cook dinner for your other kids. Why wake up the baby? You get a baby monitor so when/if the baby cries you can attend but you also have a bit more mobility.

As for the cord thing...why would you even put that near the baby? Babies put everything and anything in their mouths, never mind choking. Yeaaah, I want my child chewing on wires, good for the gums. I'm not sure about people sometimes...

I think common sense is going extinct. :/ I wouldn't dare leave anything like that in reach of a small child.

- I am a single mom, was for most of my daughter's growing up years, and no, I never felt the need for some silly baby monitor. I think the contraptions are silly. It's not that hard to keep the kid in your room if you're that heavy of a sleeper (Most parents I know become incredibly light sleepers after a while with their new ones) put the crib in your room if they're that little you'd "need" a monitor. If punkin's sleeping leave the door open a crack. So, no, I still don't see a purpose to them 'shrug'. And to be so foolish and brain dead that you'd hang something corded near your wee one ? Yeah, asking for trouble. Horrid that stupidity killed thee babies. Horrid.

It's great that you're super mom and all but you're not every parent. Some parents like having a monitor so they can go about the house and still hear their baby sleep correctly.

As for the baby monitors themselves... I thought those things were cordless. Otherwise yes it's sad that these parents didn't think too clearly about the whole setup. They're going to be paying for this the rest of their lives and that's enough punishment. :(

Do you like my avatar? A ❤ would be wonderful. :)

Wow, I'm really glad that your baby didn't wake up at the slightest noise. My brothers woke up if we were doing anything, vacuuming, the dishes, the T.V being too loud. How dare we try to be mobile while they slept :

Quote
The commission first warned about the potential danger of monitor cords last October. Since 2004, seven children have strangled on baby monitor cords placed too close to a crib.
While I'm sad about the loss of seven lives...it's only seven, does this really warrant a recall? That's one child a year...

Quote
In addition to the recall linked to strangulations, Summer Infant also is recalling the rechargeable batteries in another 58,000 video monitors exclusively sold at Babies R Us in 2009 and 2010. The commission says the batteries sold with certain Slim and Secure Video Monitors can overheat, rupture and possibly burn people.
Now this is a serious recall!

They basically gave her a noose. e_e

As my father always says, when he comes across stupid parents, "Some people were just not meant to be mothers/fathers/parents"

Actually, I was thinking that too. There are ways to keep chords out of reach of children. If they were really concerned about their babies, they would've done that in the first place. What were they thinking, really?
