When I view my pet page that shows all pets, it gives a "books read" count however when I select the drop down and go to view those books, the count says differently...

You Pets page : http://subeta.net/pets.php - does not give a "books read" count. You can find that information on the pet's profile, or on the second page you mentioned, from the dropdown. The intelligence number you see on the main Your Pets page is not the same as intelligence. Reading 1 book gives you 1 intelligence, but you can also gain it from other means, such as boosters, the job agency, and some games.
