My mom was recently diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. I've been looking things up on the internet to find out more about it. As far as I can tell, if it's caught early, having a hysterectomy will treat it.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of cancer? Or known someone who has? I'm not sure on what the process is for treatment and staging, if that makes any sense.

My mom is going to see a Gynecologist this coming week. I'm not sure what for. Is seeing a Gynecologist typical when someone has this type of cancer? Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

My mom knew someone who had that type of cancer. She was cured because they caught it early enough that it hadn't spread past the endometrium in her uterus, so when they performed the hysterectomy, they got all the cancer. From what I understand, it's one of the easier ones to get rid of because it starts in the uterus and once they take that out, it's gone. This article shows information on the grades (stages) and a lot of other good info. If you need help understanding any of it, you can ask me if you want and I'll try to explain what I can. I don't have any kind of medical training, but I tend to absorb info easily and watch a lot of medical documentaries and dramas.

As far as any advice goes, all I can tell you is to be strong for your mom. I know it's going to be hard for both of you, but the good news is that it's a very treatable condition. I would suggest going with your mom to her appointments if she's okay with that, so that you can be as well informed as you can be. Other than that, just be there for her and let her know that if she needs to talk or anything, that you're there for her. hugs

Thank you for the info. Do you by any chance know if a hysterectomy is necessary in determining the stage/grade of the cancer?

I would really want to go with her to all of her appointments, but I don't live in my hometown any more. And going home isn't exactly easy.

I really appreciate your help <3

I'm fairly certain they can determine the stage of the cancer by doing a biopsy, but doing a biopsy carries the risk of making the cancer spread. I'm not entirely sure on that though. I know they sometimes do blood tests, a CAT scan, or an ultrasound to determine stages/grades of cancer as well. They might order all three tests, just to be positive on what's going on.

They've done a biopsy, that's how they discovered the cancer. Not sure if they determined the stage. My mom may not have told me, just so I don't worry, you know (she's like that).

It's comforting to know that it's an easier cancer to treat (depending on how far it's progressed, of course). Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it hun <3
