Since Sunday, the same three or four female cats (ALL in heat) have been prowling around our place, yowling for Sydney (my hairball-with-legs) to... you know. ;3 Because he's apparently a major stud, in their eyes.
Funny thing is that Sydney has little interest in them... because his manhood was whacked off when he was two months old (he's turning seven years old this upcoming autumn).
But here they are, every morning (and afternoon, and night... wtf; do they never go home?) yowling and pawing at our side gate. To which dear Sydney simply replies "Mao". Repeatedly (unless I bring him indoors). You'd think they'd leave once he's inside... but nooo.
I've sprayed them with water, tried to chase them off using our dog, shouted, physically run up to them in order to get them to scatter...
And yet they return, every. goddamn. day.
I'm at my wits' end. Any suggestions? Or should I wait this out?
(Interestingly enough, this only happened once before, with only one of these same cats... three years ago. But now there's suddenly four, all wanting Sydney-seed.)
I don't think there's really anything you can do to make them go away. xD Cats in heat are crazy, and persistent. Good luck, though!
Not much you can do unfortunately, cats in heat are stubborn and if you've already trying spraying them and chasing them it doesn't look like they're willing to leave.

Call a vet or something? You don't really want cats to reproduce in the wild, so either take them to get them fixed or call the pound. But gosh, that'd drive me crazy xD
Maybe you can try spraying something orange-y? Cats hate citrus smells.
Cats in heat are usually easy to catch. If they're wearing collars, find out their address, march them home, and explain to their owner that they should keep their queens inside. XD If nothing else, lie about it... say that you work evenings/nights and the yowling is keeping you awake. If it saves the world from another unwanted litter of kittens, it's definitely a good thing.
If they look homeless, call your local animal control. That way, if someone owns them, they'd have to pay a fine to get their cat returned; it probably wouldn't happen a second time. If nobody shows up to claim them, they'd be available for adoption, and most shelters require a spay/neuter agreement when you adopt a cat. Good results either way.
I can't think of any good sprays that would deter persistent cats. :/ And even if they left your house alone, they'd go looking for a stud elsewhere, and there would soon be more intact queens around the neighborhood. (Not whining at you, I'm just a fervent believer in indoor/speutered cats. XD)
LOL wow, once again this topic caught my eye and I had to see what it was about, and its certainly picqued my interest.
Spray your gate with a water vinager solution. It will get them to scramble. Same with something citrusy, cats aren't the kind of animals to stay around if there are nasty smells (in a way I'm like them i guess XDD)
If all else fails, do what people in Lanark do with Coyotes. Take out your shotgun and fire in the air. It'll certainly get them to piss off.
(or you could shoot at them with a paintball gun/gernade launcher)
Of course I'm only joking :O

Citrus is toxic to cats, so I wouldn't try this. :x
I second the idea of calling Animal Control. Maybe they could lend you some humane traps to set? That way, you can catch the cats when they come back at night even if they aren't there when the control officer visits.
Either way, it's a good idea to get these kitties off the streets. Not only could they breed and produce more yowling and unwanted kittens, they could also spread disease. If you have fleas in your area, these cats could give them to your cat and spread disease that way. :l
There are a few things you can try: Products in Australia we have are called things like" Keep Off" - " Piss-Off " , "Scram" etc. They are especially made to deter cats, dogs etc from lawn. Possibly you can search for some siimilar products in your area(state/country)
Also things like filling some empty bottles of water and scattering them around the borders of the lawn.(sometimes it deteres stray kittehs - costs you nothing but a bit of time)
Remember you can opt for home made type ones as apposed to the ones which are not environmentally friendly.
ie as mentioned above, home made citrus sprays Cats are not keen on the smell of citrus. So you could try using orange or lemon peel in your yard as a deterrent. Similarly some folks advocate coffee grounds, blood meal, cayenne pepper, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil.
Perhaps even more effective (but maybe a bit unsightly) is to string some unwanted CD's together with knots in between to keep them apart. These high tech cat distracters can then be hung across flower beds and vegetable plots or hung from trees. (research shows that cats are most likely to be repelled by old dog christmas carol CD 's...lol)
