I think it would be incredibly helpful if we were able to bump a forum thread after a certain amount of time. Be it once an hour or even as far apart as once a day. This would help unanswered questions in the help forums get attention as well as things like site event threads.... I know a lot of people trying to start up bands during battle of the bands gave up because their threads got no attention... they quickly sank due to band threads that were full and being bumped by team mates chatting about their team.
I also think this would be great for threads that get re-used. You wouldn't have to have people re making sale threads they could just bump their one thread when they start a new sale which would create less work for forum mods who have to constantly lock threads. =)
I'm sure there are many other instances where this would come in handy. I hope you'll give it some consideration. =)
They used to have this, and then they took it away. I'd like to keep it gone so people don't bump up threads over and over again that are just about to be necro'd
I think the system is fine the way it is. You can always ask a friend to help your board, and I rarely is ever see a question get skipped over in the Help forum.
Please, let this never be a thing again.
Please no.
The forums here move very slowly. All it takes is one other person to bump a thread back up to the top and that can be asked of someone who's already posted on whatever particular thread. Topics do get moved down and buried with reason.
Also, can you imagine the people who are already group ping happy using/abusing this feature?
Don't post, it'll be a necro: Discussion about users locking their own topics - Topic Locking.

Actually, I think it would be helpful. Like one of my threads is all the way down to the bottom of the page with no answers, I ended up just requesting it locked.I think once a day would be good.
Sometimes people don't post on your thread for some reason.Like my thread in the wanted section- I really would like to buy minions for my gallery, but no one is posting on it, and its falling really fast.
And for those saying ask a friend, what about those of us with no friends? literally I have no friends, the ones on my list have been frozen or inactive for ages lol.

If people aren't posting on your wanted board, they aren't interested. Bumping it over and over again isn't going to help, it's going to annoy people.
actually I have a shop just for selling minions and had I seen thread I would have posted on it. That being said Springfairy556 you can check it out on my profile.
Also I guess I could see how people could ruin or abuse it....
Please, don't. I seriously don't want to see someone bumping their thread with "Bump, lalala, up" it's annoying and useless.
Bump threads? No. That's just annoying. Let's get that out of the way.
Having said that though, there IS a difference between someone who's bumping a thread just to get it seen, and someone else who adds to a discussion that, while it might be old, is still relevant. It's probably just me, but I get annoyed when people just cry "NECRO!" in the latter situation, regardless of the content of the actual post. It feels like a little kid tattling on their sibling or something.
Seriously, are we robots who only see things in black and white, or people who can make distinctions? I think the mods here certainly have enough good judgement to determine whether someone's being an attention-seeking asshat or just wanted to participate in a thread and didn't notice the date of the last post. As someone else already mentioned, some forums move pretty slow. If a thread's still on the first page, and the topic is still relevant, then were I a newbie with something to share I'd blunder on in thinking it was still fair game.
"But, but, the ruuuuuules! It still breaks the rules!" Yeah, yeah, I know. And I'll admit, the forums are large with lots of topics, and it's probably just easier on the mods to give all old threads a blanket treatment rather than take them on a case-by-case basis. Well, if that's so, maybe the cut-off rule - actually, all of the forum rules - should be posted somewhere more prominent. Say...the top of the main forums page, where all the other links are. That way more people would be aware of it, and hopefully think to check the date of the last post before making their own.
Sorry, I honestly didn't mean to write a whole essay on this. But it's just been kind of a sore spot with me for a while that people who legitimately want to participate in an "old" thread are treated only a little better than blatant spammers, and personally I think the cut-off rule is kind of stupid. If someone contributes something meaningful to an old discussion or brings light to an old problem that's been forgotten about and never resolved (because let's face it, that happens pretty often around here), shouldn't that carry more weight than breaking a time limit? Which one wouldn't even be aware of unless they check the rules, which aren't really in a highly visible place?
I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking this.
The only time I've wanted to bump a thread was during events - and if bumping were allowed everyone else would ALSO be doing it and between new threads and bumping, the thread would disappear onto page 2 even faster.
As for unanswered questions in the help forum, well I hang out there a lot and the first thing I always do is to page down and look for any threads that have few, or no, responses. The rare time a thread doesn't get replied to fairly quickly, is when people just don't know the answer. They don't post "I don't know" because 1- that's spam, and 2 - if too many reply saying I don't know, people who might be able to answer would skip it because there are already replies.

Okay so that's one person. The rest who looked obviously weren't interested. There's still no reason to keep bumping threads people aren't interested in.
Bumping is at minimum borderline spamming. Also, what should be obvious to people: if you bump your thread, others bump theirs. If people aren't interested in your thread, it still ends up at the bottom of the pile. So what's the use of this?
There's no good reason to add this.
