So! I'm trying to update my wardrobe because it's years old haha. I know what I like, but my problem is that I suck at matching. Like, I don't know what shoes go with what and colors and such unless it's super ultra obviously a no.

I'm looking for two things really, an answer to a question I have and maybe some example of match shoes, jeans, shirts, dresses and what have you.

I will love you guys forever and ever if you help me (:

So my question is... would it be okay to wear leggings under a dress? I don't like the feeling of having my legs exposed while wearing a dress but... I've heard mixed reactions to it.

I'm talking about a dress like this. Nothing fancy, but... yeah.

If it is okay, but not with that particular dress, could you show me one they would look good with?

PS. The stores I like are Forever21, American Eagle, H&M, Macy's, JCPenney, Pac Sun, Aéropostale, rue21, and New York and Company. There's no but I shouldn't list every store ever haha. I can dig most styles but I tend to lean towards the boho look. A little bit, anyway.

But suggest anything you like, I totally open to new ideas (:

I don't know a crap about fashion, but I think leggings would look nice with a dress like that. Especially if you have short hair, I just feel it would be really cute. But again, I never cared about fashion, just judging from which girls I find attractive and good looking.

points to name, haha

i dont really recommend that dress with leggings, mostly because of the color, but say you found some the same color, then why not? but even black would work, or maybe white. the shoes for that dress could be almost any color ^^

i do reccommend you to bookmark this site - http://lookbook.nu/ - because this is fashion from around the world, from fashionistas. they dont necessarily buy the most expensive brands or designers, but some do. what stands out the most is their style, which is very street oriented.

tips on how to choose your new clothes/wardrobe:

  • see what types of clothes you like the most, then go try them on in stores - or similar -
  • in the tryout cabin, take a pic of your self in the mirror, and look at the image, as if you didnt know the person, and see if you would like seeing that outfit on the person. if oyu dont like it, dont buy it. if you do, get it
  • go shopping alone, and in the days when there is less people out, like the week days.
  • todays fashion doesnt follow the strict rules of color assortment, but it may look prettier if they match

questions? ask me ^^

Leggings in a shade would be fine. Black, white, grey. While Colour Blocking is in, it's best to have similar textures while doing so. Lace doesn't work well with colour blocking because of how busy it is. Tights or nylons in a shade would be fine too. If you'd like another pop of colour, a gold shoe would look fantastic.

Er, I'm not sure why you're hesitant. I see girls wear leggings under their dresses all the time here, especially in winter. It usually looks pretty good. You can put black leggings under virtually any dress and it'll be presentable. But if you want my honest opinion, I would go for opaque tights/stockings instead. But this is purely a personal preference thing, because the bare ankles with leggings just look odd to me.

And what said.

...Never thought I'd give fashion advice, but yup, over here, dresses and leggings work too. People usually pair them with ballet flats (black, white, or whatever the color of your bag/accessories would work-- teal works, too, but you may find it harder to match with other outfits), sandals work, too. Depending on what kind of shoe, it should decide how casual the outfit is (higher heels/wedges = more classy/less casual and works better if you're short.) Flats would be more casual-- you can also wear a vest over the dress like some people do here...(vest in: http://www.zestypink.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ve012.jpg) Boots also work, ankle boots or calf length ones-- black would probably be safest if you go with black tights.

Stockings can/do work, too, if you're not using sandals. I'd recommend black, if so, but then I like contrast. They can be a bit unflattering depending on body type, though.

Ballet Shoe (in gold, to incorporate comment above): http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=252585

Gold shoes can add glitz to any outfit, and surprisingly works well, used sparingly, I think. Just my opinion, but hope it helps! :>

I think that dress would look adorable with leggings. Probably just simple no design ones, but for color I think even something out of the ordinary would look fine if you're comfortable with wearing crazy colors :P That dress is really cute, I kind of want it myself

Haha yes, that was just an example dress more for the casual look. Unfortunately that one only comes in bright blue. And thanks for the site. It does make it tooooons easier when I see how others wear it. Hmm, okay (: I can see why lace wouldn't be such a good idea. But if the dress were monochromatic it be okay then? (I suppose I really need to get myself some gold shoes now) And you did help (: Actually, the vest idea sounds really cute! I actually really like the color, but I was more looking to see if a dress in that style would work, which everyone so far has said yes. And I don't mind bright colors on others, but I've yet to find a way to make them work on me lol. Oh well, one day I may (:

I'm not too bothered by what others are thinking about me but at the same time I don't want to look like I was might high when picking out my outfit haha. I'd just rather not look ridiculous. And I've too seen other girls with leggings and dresses but... they always seem to wear a particular style of dress and that's like, my weak point. Everything about fashion is my weak point :p

I love lace, it's just not good to mix other bright colours with a bright lace pattern. Like, don't mix a yellow skirt with a red lace shirt kind of thing. The dress is fine as is!

May I ask what your body shape is?

A vest! great thinking!

- I think that dress is inappropriately short that with leggings it will give a false sense of modesty that you're hiding your legs with dark leggings while getting away with a very short dress. It seems off, although with what you kids wear today, it's really unsurprising.

BUT since you want advice, I'd still say no. Stick with tan or ivory pantyhose for a summery look with either shoes/sandals in that shade of blue to a silver or even a light cream color.

:> Thanks. I always like layering. Short vests and jackets may work, too, depending on the look, or just put on a loose button down/blouse and knot/tie the ends in front. Probably in white. >>;

Okay, that makes sense when I think about how it would look. As for my body shape. Lolipop? I don't know how else to describe other than my big are too big for me (They're a DD). I've got no waist (it's short, and my boobs def don't help lol). Reaaaalllly flat rear end. My hips also have this weird shape, so I tend to stay away from anything that hugs. I couldn't find a picture, but the best way to describe it is... think of the human skeleton. The hips go out, come back in, and then the thigh bone goes back out a bit again. That is how I'm shaped. It's like there's just skin or muscle/tendon/whatever is there but no fat. My legs also have little fat. (But I walk a lot so I suppose much wouldn't deposit there anyway) I don't know if you know anyway to hide my hips or make them look normal. I just go for A-line dresses.

Sorry if that's too much, but I figured more is better than less.

The dress is a bit shorter than something than I'd wear but... I don't think leggings give a false sense of modesty. Quite a few dresses are cut this short and I'd like to wear them without feeling exposed. But again, I'd probably end up wearing something longer, something that comes to my fingers tips (which his one looks a little too short to do). I will get some pantyhose though, that's a good idea. Thank you for your input (:

Oh, I know what layering look you mean. One of my friends did it at school and it look awesome. I really like that first jacket.

You sound like an inverted triangle (or the Strawberry). You want to balance out your fabulous assets by wearing brighter colours on the bottom, and more bell shapes. If you like to wear a skinnier jean, try going for a lighter denim, if not, flared jeans are best. Bell/flowly skirts and wrap dresses will always flatter. V-necks will show off your breasts, but darker colours are best to balance and draw lines to your waist. You also have one of the better bodies to wear high waisted pants if you're into that! is right on the money with those jackets too. The dress you're looking at would be best to wear with a jacket or vest if you're a lovely Strawberry, especially if you're covering your legs. Going dark on the bottom? Pop in some colour with a bright shoe!

I took those test wear they determine your body shape. But inverted triangle always seems to focus on broad shoulders, which I do not have. (Pretty narrow, actually). Would I still be n inverted triangle, then?

Nah, I took a few courses in fashion school. It can focus on the breast area just as the shoulders. Shoulders are just an easier point to describe, typically.

Okay then (: But yeah, it was a bit discouraging for them to always talk about shoulders and for me non-shouldery I was all "Pfffft, that's not me" but most of the advice for that shape does seem to suit me better. But thank you soooo much! I may end up asking you more questions later. But for now I'm good (:
