It happened early Thursday morning (2:30am). The roads were slippy, a fox ran out on him and he swerved to miss it. He crashed into a brick wall at 50mph, spun round, hit the wall again and span about 100 metres down the road.

He is up and about, and hasn't been to get checked out at a hospital. His legs hurt because they got trapped under the wheel column and his ankle got squashed under one of the pedals. He hit his head too and was unconscious for about 45 minutes. It happened in the village where he lives. When he came to he was able to free himself and crawled on his hands and knees to his house.

Thing is, I'm the ONLY person that knows the full extent of what happened. He keeps saying he's fine to everyone else and that it's just cuts and bruises. Okay, so it IS cuts and bruises now but he was still unconscious for some time and he could NOT walk when it actually happened. WHY hasn't he been checked out?

I think, if anything were going to go wrong, like internal bleeding or whatnot, he would be dead or seriously ill by now. He's up and about, he's walking, albeit with a limp, he's still got bruises and cuts, but the lump on his head has gone down and he seems quite well considering.

Do you think I'm worrying over nothing?

If my boyfriend did this and did not go to the Dr I would knock him out for worrying me.

But joking aside its prolly best to get checked out even if its to put aside any concerns.

I know a lady that fell over in the shower. Nothing major but she hit her head a bit. She passed away due to a blocked blood vessel a few weeks later.

So... not to worry you but... IMO its best to get checked out.

You should tell/take him to see a doctor. Even if he says/feels he is fine, he could wind up with long-term damage that won't show up until much later. If he is worry the doctor tells him he is fine, at least that will ease up your worrying.

- Thank you for the advice. I have asked him time and time again to get checked out, but he keeps saying he's fine. I just CAN'T get it through to him. I've told him about internal bleeding and blood clots and he just keeps saying he feels fine inside.

- Perhaps he is worried about a possible bad outcome?

I would try a different tack. Try making him feel that its upsetting you his not going. It may be like blackmail BUT its for a good cause so I dont see the harm in it.

I think his main worry is that he'll go to the doctor, and the doctor will make him have time off work. His place of work has fired people for having time off work, even when the cause of the time off is legitimate. They fired one guy for having a week off when his brother died. I think I will definitely try what you said.

If you live in the usa i'm pretty sure that its illegal to fire someone for medical or legitimate reasons. so if he gets fired he can take them to court over it or if he is in a union he can go to the union head

Probably best to get it checked out, even though it's unlikely anything is wrong. Can't he just ignore the doctor if they tell him to have time off work? (assuming it's time off for something non-life threatening :P)

If he refuses, then I suppose there's not much to be done. The longer he refuses, the more time passes and shows there's no hidden damage, I suppose.
