So I just got a message from my university stating that classes are cancelled for monday. I didn't even know there was supposed to be a hurricane so I'm just like, whatever. No class! I probably should be more concerned but I'm not.
All University of Delaware classes will be suspended for Monday, Oct. 29, and officials are strongly encouraging students to go home, departing campus as soon as possible recognizing that the weather will begin deteriorating Saturday evening.
Services will still be available for students who remain in campus residence halls, and these students should must immediately complete this online form: http://www.udel.edu/reslife/hurricane.html. Students departing should be sure to close windows and secure their residences.
I would also like to point out the fact that they say should must. Get it together UD.
As of today, October 27th, I now have off on Tuesday as well. c:
Wow. I didn't know things were getting so bad! I'm in Michigan, so the most we'll get is some rain, but we need it so that's okay. I just hope the weather's okay for my art show Saturday. No one will bother coming out if it's raining. :/ Are you staying at uni then? Or are you heading somewhere safe?
I live like ten minutes away so I'm going home. I have work tomorrow anyway. I doubt they'll cancel me. I hope the weather holds up for your art show.
the uncool thing about kansas is we don't get cancelled classes for hurricanes B(
I'm in Virginia (on the coast) & I just want it to get bad enough that we can evacuate, I don't want to be here.
In any case, stay safe! I'm not on the coast so it shouldn't be nearly as bad as it would be if I were. I have a friend who lives in cape may, new jersey. I think they are doing voluntary evac. in Cape May county. Keeping my fingers crossed that class will be cancelled Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Three days might be too much to hope for though.
How far inland are you? It's not supposed to hit us until Tuesday (though earlier they've been switching from: Sunday to Monday, then back to Tuesday.) Maybe you will get those classes off!
I'm about 13 miles from the Delaware bay, but that's at the narrower end up north (towards Wilmington or new castle), not further south towards the beaches. I'd love to not have class Wednesday. Especially since that's the day I have lab!
I only just found out there was a hurricane about to hit a few hours ago. Which state are you in?? I get Monday off too, but its just because it's a teacher work day.
I didn't know until I got a message from the university alert system. I'm in Delaware.
Unfortunately, I kinda doubt I'll get work off. I work Sunday-Thursday, too. D: (At Subway, so my job is -super- important.)
edit: I'm in NJ.
Delaware? I thought hurricanes didn't usually hit that far up, especially since colder weather is coming?
We've gotten some bad hurricanes, particularly Floyd back in '99. Usually they are tropical storms by the time they reach us. As far as colder weather, it's been pretty mild lately. We had a week where it finally felt like fall and then we went back to 70 degree weather.
Really?! I hope it doesn't get too bad! Are you along the coast or inland?
My boyfriend rents a house on UD campus and one of his roommates is an exchange student from Germany. I was over his house today and she knocked on his bedroom door and asked if she could come in and ask us some questions about hurricanes. She has no idea what to expect. We told her it would rain a lot and expect lot's of strong gusts but where their house is, they should be fine. Her poor mom Skyped her and was terrified.
Also, Del Tech is closed on Monday too. I have my fingers crossed for Tuesday as well because I have a math test I'm not ready for...
I feel bad for kids. What a crappy time for a hurricane. Not sure how exactly the trick or treating is going to work out.
Well, actually, now that I think about it, your definition of cold and my definition of cold is different. I'm from Texas, around here 85-90 degrees is nice weather, and anything below(or near) 60 degrees is freezing cold. But anyways, I always just thought it was rare for any hurricane to make it to shore up there, due to the year-round colder sea water.
