ok.. 1. Don't know if this has been suggested before. If it has, please provide the link and I'll have this thread locked. 2. Don't know if this is a feasible or even a good idea - that's why I'm asking y'all... what do you think about this? Good idea, bad idea? If it is a bad idea, tell me why. If you think it's a good idea, tell me why - mixed feelings? Tell me why... I wanna hear back from y'all on this idea. Of course for me, it's a shot in the dark.

I was thinking about how we have to scroll to the top of the page to see our events. What's frustrating is when you are in the forums and you're all the way down at the bottom of the page (if you are one of the last posters for that page, and that also depends on how many posts you have set to show on each page on your computer), I got to thinking... it would kinda be neat if the events in your left hand toolbar would float scroll down with you when you go further down the page - you know, how some websites have it where they have their directory box or whatever scroll with you when you go further down the page? I don't know if this is a good idea at all, that's why I wanna hear all your opinions on this. I think it would be neat, but thinking more about it, I'd be on the fence. Yes, I know we can press the "home" key on our keyboard and it will pop us up to the top of the page, and yes it doesn't take much to click on your scrollbar and slide the bar to the top.... So really, this is more of a 'convenience' feature, and also a kick ass feature too. BUT!!! lag lag lag??? too much coding? PROS AND CONS EVERYONE! XD

well, it's been a slice. I'm outta here. I'm done here and I need to move on to other things. I've grown weary of forum bullies and just don't have the energy for them anymore. I am praying for my friends here, as well as the bullies... everyone needs prayer...
As for my friends, I love you immensely and you are always in my heart and in my soul. God bless each of you and I pray He blesses each of you greatly.

I can see the benefit to this, but I can also see that this could be annoying too. I don't keep my events for very long and much of the time, I open a new tab when I'm looking at different forums so I don't lose my place in my pings. lol. Then when I'm done with all that, I delete everything. So having them float with me all the time when I scroll can be irritating. If it was more of a thing we could choose to do, I wouldn't mind that, but I'm not a fan of things being put into place that I didn't ask for and I don't actually need. It's like, being forced to have everything look a certain way- which is why I have cust css xD; This could be something they integrate into the new system tho, so we can always see. =B

Eh, I'm not a fan of that "follows you down the page" floating stuff. I've never seen one that scrolls smoothly, and seeing these things bouncing down the page as I scroll is distracting as I'm trying to read. >_<

I can see it being useful to some people, and it would be nice to implement. But I want a setting to turn it off, or to at least be able to keep it the way it is now with CSS. If that can't be done, no thanks. It's not that hard to get back to the top of the page.

Yes, of course a feature to turn off the scrolling - but the reasoning behind my suggestion is a matter of convenience. I know convenience suggestions aren't that popular cuz it usually includes other problems, such as lag. it's a neat idea, and I can definitely see the convenience factor, but I also do recognize the issues, such as lag. Say the site is slow for a while, for whatever reason... if you had the scrolling events, it could cause more lag because the scrolling feature needs to catch up with your page scrolling. So re thinking my idea, even if there is a feature to turn off the scrolling feature, I can see more people turning off the feature than using it.

So what happens if I have so many events that I can't see all of them at one time? I try to scroll down the page to see the bottom but whoops! The events at the top scrolled with me. :(

This does not sound convenient to me at all.

^ I have that same problem just with my widgets. There are even some pages that are so short that I have to minimize some widgets to reach the one at the bottom. I think this would solve some problems but create others, so we wouldn't really gain anything from it.

Psst, there is some customcss here that might help with short pages so you can see all your widgets.

- I'm actually using that right now, but there are one or two pages where it doesn't seem to help. :P I can't even remember which ones though, and I'm never on them for very long so it's not a huge issue.

Huh, interesting, I haven't had any issues with it at all.

So would they have to create a second scroll bar to scroll through the events? Seems like a lot of work for little reward.

I'm not a fan of having scrolling events. Our event system was already revamped to accommodate users with a lot of them very recently.

Eh, I'm on the fence about this one. It could be really annoying, but it could also be convenient. Guess it depends on how many posts you choose to display on your computer.

If this becomes a thing, I will be one of the first to turn it off. Scrolling sidebars are really irritating visually and really only work if you have a small sidebar. Even if it's just for events and not the widgets, if you had a lot of events it would be really annoying. I just don't think it's necessary. You can scroll up to view them easily.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

i'd have to join the multiplying crowd of folks being on the fence about this, mainly because page elements that are coded to scroll are usually wonky if they appear on most webpages, and especially if you have a horribly slow computer/internet connection (like me) regardless, this would be a super duper cool idea (hence why i'm on the fence - if it was implemented i'd definitely have it on and try it), i just wish the floating effect wasn't always so bad with most users n' connections y'know

it can actually be done via your customcss (i just tried, and it worked!). it's pretty simple. {position:fixed; left:17px;}

(change "left" to whatever fits your resolution) bam, and it follows you down. its detachment from the top (leaving a background-coloured gap) might be an eyesore, but it works as a temporary fix, should it not become implemented as an option for our sidebars.

with regards to the suggestion itself, i understand both the pros and cons. i personally wouldn't mind it being an option though, but i also don't have a sidebar stuffed with widgets that would become inaccessible should it be done.

I think this would be a nice option, provided we could toggle it on or off and it applied to both the 'dashboard' and 'events' tabs. I keep my sidebar set to display my dashboard, and there are times when it would be nice to have showing no matter where I am on the page. For users with too many events or widgets to display the whole thing in one go, the sidebar could always be in its own section with its own scrollbar. (Does anyone remember the 90s when like half of all websites had a huge tacky menu on the side?)

That said, with how crappy Subeta's coding apparently is, I can see how this might be impossible to add.
