It's been a very long time since I've mined anything from the coda caves... what time is it "open for business"?

Related question: I need to give skitters a Dream Gem (for the plot) - can I just buy one from user shops? Or do I have to find it myself?

I used a Gem that I still had in my Vault and it worked so I am sure it doesn't matter where you get it from.

the coda caves are open on the 6th and 7th of each month

In the case of the Dream Gem Skitters needs, I don't believe the Coda Caves have to be open. You might get one randomly if you refresh at the Coda Caves, just like the other items he asks for.
