I just want to make sure I've understood how pings work in regards to editing. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of the following.

If you forgot/didn't have someone's ping but you edit it into your post, then they get a ping at that point in time. If you edit it out, then at a later point edit it in AGAIN they would get another ping, right? (Which is how people are able to ping groups to the same post multiple times.)

I guess my question is, I've occasionally seen people edit out pings when editing posts. Is it that if a person saw the ping already, they will get another when you edit, or is that just a precaution some people take and makes no difference if the ping was already there?

If you forget to ping someone you can simply edit the post and add it in.

If you edit a post that already contained a user ping in it, it will not re-ping the user.

To re-ping a user you actually have to edit the post to remove the ping, then edit the post again to re-add it.

I think ping groups act differently though.

Hmm, wonder if ping groups do act differently or not?

I was just curious because I've seen people remove user pings, which as far as I could tell wasn't necessary unless you were for some reason planning on pinging them in the same post again later. It's a lot more understandable for ping groups, though. Thanks for the answer. :)

Ping groups you only need to edit the ping (like adding a space between the # and the name), then edit the post again to re-ping (:
