Hey guys!
I am doing a research paper on "Do video games lead to violence". I want to say no, but there is wayyy more information and studies that say yes. Does anyone know of any good studies, tv specials that talk about violent video games and effects? thanks!
Even if you can't find many studies that say they don't lead to violence, you can still argue against games leading to violence by criticising the studies that claim they do. More aggressive/violent people may be drawn to more violent games - seeing as they can only prove there is correlation between violence and violent video games, there's nothing saying that they cause violence. (BTW, sorry if I'm telling you what you already know - can never be sure :P)
Then there's the view that they're cathartic, or beneficial as they let people 'let loose' their violent urges in a safe way. (According to my old psychology text book, there's a study by Sherry (2007) saying this view is supported, no details on it though). He also did a handy meta-analysis: Sherry (2001)

The other day in my terrorism psychology class, we watched Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore and he mentioned how the Japanese are the ones that makes the video games and they have way less violence than Americans and how Americans aren't the only ones that play those games. I don't know how true that is since it is coming from Michael Moore, but it's something to look into..
