I recently learned that the reason why we can't stick loyalty boxes, wrapped gifts, and those booster eggs into our vaults is because they can be moved from the vault into our shops, and then can be sold.

Why not add a new, "super-secure" type of vault or vault category? It would be separate from our regular vaults and these vaults would just let you add items from your inventory, and put items back into your inventory. Certain items--such as loyalty boxes--would only go to this vault. I imagine other items could be added as well, if a user so desires, just to make sure that they don't accidentally move some special item to a shop.

Pros:

  • Keeps loyalty boxes totally safe; no chances of forgetting to lock them in your inventory and getting them turned into a cube or stolen
  • Items stored in super-secure vaults wouldn't take up a locked item slot
  • Doesn't require complicated programming; would basically just be an old version of the original vault (I could be wrong on this since I'm not an expert about programming in the slightest)
  • Prevents inventory clutter for users who have a problem with that
  • Items that are super-valuable (whether because of sP value or sentimental value) to a user would have no chance of being accidentally moved to a shop and sold

Cons:

  • Adding a new feature to the site is kind of drastic just to solve this problem
  • Not totally useful except for select items that can't be bought and traded

Thoughts?

...or just let us lock more items in our inventory.

(and while they're at it, fix locked items showing up places they shouldn't)

That, too. Though I suspect we won't get more lock slots anytime soon. :P

I would greatly appreciate this. Locked items showing up when I go to send gifts is... mildly frightening. I get pretty neurotic about making sure I clicked the right thing.

I wouldn't mind being able to toss stuff into my vault, but I can't see it happening. Or more inventory slots because you can get 10 by having a GA active.

Wait but if you have problems remembering to lock loyalty boxes how are you supposed to remember to put it in the super secure vault?

It would invalidate basically the whole reason for having locked items in the first place. The feature was made for items that couldn't be moved or had to be kept in the inventory so 'Items stored in super-secure vaults wouldn't take up a locked item slot' isn't really a pro of any sort that's kind of the same as saying 'I bought a deep freezer so now I don't have to user my freezer to keep things cold anymore' in a way. Locked items are useful for things like Lizard spray/traps and maybe discount cards, but the intended purpose was for items that can't be moved.

The way I see it is Pros:

  • Prevents inventory clutter for users who have a problem with that
  • A few sentimental items that cost under 1mil sp would have no chance of being moved to a shop and sold.

Cons: -More vault clutter (having to figure out which vault everything is in and probably one of them would turn out to be pretty useless as users picked one or the other to use) -The programmers have to code something new -It takes away the intended purpose of item locks -Adding a new feature to the site is kind of drastic just to solve this problem -It's not totally useful -People are still going to complain about forgetting to throw their items in the super secure vault

[edit] I will say, however, that locked items not showing up where they aren't supposed to would be nice.

I would love to be able to move my 80+ wrapped gifts (DON'T ASK, lol) and loyalty box out of my inventory :/ I don't see it being implemented though. The vaults itself needs a makeover.

I don't think an entirely new vault would be needed, I would just like those items to become vaultable and coded in a way that, if someone tried to select them and pick the "move to a shop" option, an error would show up. (If you actually try to wrap and send a LB to someone else, wouldn't it cause an error to happen too? Never tried, but I'd expect so.)

Lock spaces would still have a use for me, even besides the minion trap/spray.

Alternatively, more lock spaces (even if it was implemented as a purchasable option - sp sinks?) plus locked items not showing in places like the gift center would probably have a very similar effect to me.

Wait can we lock loyalty boxes? I thought there was something we couldn't...?

At the very least, that should happen. I think the quickstock has an option where if you select a bunch of items to go to your wardrobe, any items that aren't wearable are excluded, but the rest are sent. (I could be imagining this or confusing something with Neopets; it's been a long time since I've mass-added items to my wardrobe.) The vault should have a feature like that, too, so if you select a loyalty box to go to your shop along with 10 other normal items, it sends the 10 normal items but not the box.

Yup, you can lock loyalty boxes, as well as the totems you get from them. I'm not aware of any items that we can't lock, however.

Huh, maybe I'm just getting it mixed up with the vaulting thing shrug either way I'd like this, I don't want a ton of stuff locked in my inventory, it's clutter-some and I don't want to keep on thinking about it, I'd rather just put it to one side.

That's about right, I've been doing it a lot recently and the 404 experiment shows up every time to tell me which items couldn't be moved because they're already there or aren't wearable. (: Maybe it's because I'm not a coder/know nothing about Subeta's base code but I really don't see why it would be so hard to implement a block like that for LBs/eggs/gifts... and then I would still use my lock spaces exactly because my vault is so big that I'd rather keep some valuable items around (yet safe) when I know I'm going to use them soon!
