I've seen a few "Overrated" topics floating around the forums so I thought it would be fun to have one on the film industry (forgive me if there is already a topic on this out there- too lazy to look, haha).
Now, I know a lot of you after reading this will probably jump onto the anti-Twilight bandwagon which is fine, but let's try to broaden the horizons a bit. I also want to encourage friendly criticism if opposition arises, rather than food-fighting for what is better/worse. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
To start things off, I will say that I absolutely hate Avatar. The visuals are great, yes, but I hate the unoriginal Pocahontas storyline behind it and the cliche destructive, arrogant, and trigger-happy humans resorting to violence rather than negotiation. I do however admire the lengths Cameron went to make it visually pleasing as well as taking real human languages and mixed them together to make the Nah'vi's (Or however you call them) tongue, but I really don't think the movie deserved to be praised like it was the new Jesus.
If I remember more, I will be sure to post them down the road.

White savior movies are always overrated.
I Am Legend was really overrated. I didn't like any of the endings.
The Help was horrible.
I agree with you on I Am Legend. I like the concept of it, but it really just wasn't that memorable for me. Haven't seen the Help though, but my mother and her friends love the book.

The Notebook... I love Rachel McAdams and the movie is cute but people need to calm their asses down with that movie. Also pretty much every single 'great' football movie and army movie I've never really found all that appealing but I suppose that's an unfair personal preference. I don't think any of the dumb and dumber movies are funny at all either.
:c I loved The Help, why didn't you like it?
T.T but...but...The notebook. Have you read the book?
Anyway, Scarface.
Inception the concept and such were cool, but I really didn't care for it much at the end of the day. especially when it was nearly two and a half hours, not a movie I want to watch over and over again x.x /short attention span
Coco before Chanel. It was way worse then I expected, still good though.
Ugh, Inception. It was confusing when it was released (As it was meant to be) and it is still the same now. Truly not a good movie to watch over again because the "Omgwtf" factor has worn off.
Speaking of that, a similar movie franchise like that is Paranormal Activity. I love lost footage style horror movies, but these three in particular aren't worth watching again unless you want to laugh at your friends being scared.

I've read that The Help (surprise surprise) kills a lot of Historical Accuracy...but I haven't seen or read it. I don't understand the infatuation with Up...the beginning was great and then it just muddled.
Agreed that Avatar was totally overrated. I went to bed half an hour before the end because I just didn't see the point in watching anything more of it!
Can't think of any other films off the top of my head...
The Matrix. It was super stupid and a waste of 2 hours of my life. I didn't care enough to watch the second or third. But from what I've been told, I didn't miss much.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I didn't think it was that funny.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Off the top of my head: Harry Potter, Paranormal Activity (gag), and Twilight (lol, can that awful mess even be categorized as "entertainment"?).
Back in the day I might've added Pirates and LoTR to that list, but really only Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom were the overrated parts to them. I still enjoy the storylines (except for the fourth Pirates: I only liked the mermaid's story in that one, the rest can be trashed). I liked the first and second Harry Potters well enough, but then it just got to be too ridiculous and a bit sloppy. Plus all the online spoilers from the books made them unwatchable.
I agree with Avatar. The making of it was great, but the story definitely could have been better. n-n

I agree with people saying Avatar. The one thing I don't agree with is saying it's Pocahontas with blue people. It's clearly Ferngully with blue people. Seriously. Nature-loving humanoids who listen to the feelings of the land have to stop the humans from destroying their home. A human working for the people destroying the forrest grows/shrinks to the fairies'/Navi's size and becomes a sort of ambassador, learning their ways and that what the humans are doing is wrong. The ambassador and his love interest then have to stop the humans and their large deforestation machine. The threat is taken care of, and balance is restored. Oh, and the man rides on the back of a flying animal at one point. The only things missing are Robin Williams-bat and a musical number by Tim Curry.
To lazy to come up with an interesting forum text and sig. Bye!
Shoot me but I hated the last HP movie. I honestly just expected more. Part 1 was my favorite movie. The dialogue and acting was great, it was funny and dark, and it had a perfect cliffhanger.
Come part 2. They completely rushed through it, with no attention to detail. They seemed to forget that it was the last movie, and they just did such a bad job. The final fight scene, the death scenes, everything was unemotional and terribly produced IMO.
That was the first HP movie I didn't like, yet it seemed to be everyones favorite.
The Twilight series (enough said) I didn't care for the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland. I actually liked Avatar but get where the story could have been stronger. As for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows did anyone else notice that the only mention of Tonks and Remis having a child is after they died and Harry asking who will tell his son about him? Umm that information could have been used earlier in case you hadn't read the book.

How to Train Your Dragon.. I don't understand why so many people love it. It was boring and nothing really caught my attention. The dragon (Toothless?) was cute but that's about it. :/
