In the past few years, the local amusement park has gotten rid of two coasters I've grown up with: the Whirlwind and the High Speed Thrill Coaster (this one was removed very recently).
Video of the Whirlwind. And yes, it really was that noisy. It was replaced with a coaster that's been built for four years but still isn't opened because they can't find a train that will go through safely. =/
Video of the High Speed Thrill Coaster. Original to the park, if I remember correctly. Built in 1955. It wasn't operated like a normal coaster (pushing buttons); the operator stood there and controlled the lift chain/breaks with levers. Pretty darn awesome. And yes, it really was that rough, and you were seriously jerked around, haha. They're putting this in its place. :(
I miss the Whirlwind, and I'm sure gonna miss the HSTC.
Are there any rides at the amusement park(s) you regularly go to that you miss?
Six Flags, fo sho. I miss going on the Batman with my buds goin "nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh BATMAN!"
SUBMARINES AT DISNEYLAND
i was watching youtube videos of them the other day. i loved that ride SO SO SO SO SO SO OSOSOSFO SOFOASJDFA MUCH.
it was so cool!! cross eyes sea monsteres, mermaids!!!! and fishies, deep dark undersea water :( and it gets replaced with a pansy finding nemo ride.
I saw a video from the 50s where they had real women dress up and swim in the uh.. lagoon or whatever it's called, and they sat on rocks. how cool is that?? :( i miss that ride so much. I'm going to buy a big hunk of land by a lake and recreate it.

The little coaster was actually one of the most popular rides in the park. They just couldn't fix it anymore.
That must suck. D-: But I highly doubt Silverwood is going to be getting rid of any of their roller coasters or rides anytime soon, so there's not much for me to worry about.
{ Tumblr || Flight Rising }Well, it hasn't closed down, but I really do miss going to Chessington (theme park and zoo combined). Haven't been in years.
What reminded me of it today was this policewoman at our school. She was handing out crime questionnaires for us to fill in (which I ever so tastefully decorated with a stick-man battle replaying the events of the London G20 protest) and she informs us that there will be a trip to Chessington for £10 (CHEAP AS FUCK) this summer. Awww yeah.

There's a little traveling carnival thingy that comes to our town every year, and every year me and my friends go to it.
Last year, they took out the Ring of Fire. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a ride that's basically a giant upright circle and the car spins around on a track inside of it.

There's a video of one at a park somewhere. Ours was a lot faster, and a lot of times they'd stop when the car was upside down and leave you there for a few seconds. It was always a blast.
Our carnival took it out and replaced it with a fun house for kids. The whole thing is being aimed towards 10 and under now, and it really sucks for us teens/adults who still want to ride stuff.
Thankfully they haven't killed any of my favorite rides at Canada's Wonderland. If they ever got rid of the Mighty Canadian Minebuster I would scream, it's an old wooden coaster that roars and throws you around like crazy. It feels like it will disintegrate underneath you at any given moment, and it's a friggen blast. They keep putting in new rides, but for the most part they're too slick and shiny and smooth to have the same thrill factor that the Minebuster puts out.
