Okay so I'm making a story and I need some help with a character. She's is pretty much the leader of a group of people who wants to find a girl named Helena and pretty much ruin her life. I know that the leader lady hates Helena but I'm not sure why yet. I also need a name for her. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!~

Honestly it's a little difficult to come up with an idea when we don't have the basics of the plot or even a story direction. You need to figure out what drives this character. If she doesn't care about softball or theatrics she's not going to care that Helena pitches or got the lead in the play instead of her. People hate, people destroy, because they have a passion for something. You need to find out what that motivator is, and how Helena fits into the picture. Again, your request for help is so vague that it's difficult to craft a proper idea. Did she kill her sister in a blood war? Bring a man back to life? Is she better at magic? Does she have man?

If you are seeking only a broad gem- I'd boil it down quickly to human instinct. Pick a sin and run with it (ie; interpret wildly). Example: Sloth. Helena is a lazy archer but she gets all the praise for taking out a villain with one shot, when Character Y actually made the shot. Helena was then honored and set on a direct path to kinghthood, while Character Y struggles to feed her family.

Or the reverse if Helena is the protagonist; maybe Character Y took all the credit and is trying to foil her so the truth doesn't come out.

If on the other hand you can't find a reason to hate Helena, maybe "hate" isn't the right feeling.

Good luck, ! :)

Starting out with ethnicity and/or nationality helps a lot with names. Looking up name meaning is fun, as well. Maybe take a personality trait and find a name with that meaning? As for motive/reasoning, just start asking yourself questions. Does the main character have a past with Helena that greatly affected their relationship? Did they just meet? Is the leader trying to protect/conceal something when Helena threatens/gets in the way of that? If you have the setting for the story, try to make the conflict fit. Setting can be a good starting point for that sort of thing. Luck to you!
