For the past day or so, my left ear has been thumping. I can feel it when it does this. It's an odd, kind of muted thump. The rhythm is sporadic and does not match my pulse. It will go from nonexistent to rapidly thumping for several seconds in a row. It's not hurting me, but it is extremely annoying. I've tried cleaning it out with hydrogen peroxide and alcohol but nothing is working. The only thing I can match the feeling to is a nervous eye twitch. I've had that happen before under extreme stress and that's what it feels like except in my ear. Just this uncontrollable twitch. However, I'm not under any extreme stress really. Or rather it was happening before I started getting stressed and it's still the same now that I am under a lot of stress so I don't think that stress is a factor in it.

tldr; Looking for advice on what I should do to get rid of a weird thumping/twitching in my left ear. Rhythm sporadic like a muscle twitch.

Same thing has happened to me before. In fact, it happened only a few months ago. It went away in 2-3 days. No problems since, and no damage to my hearing. :) There is nothing you can do to get rid of it, just let it run its course. I wouldn't be poking around in there with a q-tip either, for the time being. However, if it does not go away in a week (or for some reason becomes EXTREME and like literally never stops for hours on end), I'd go to the doctor, because it could be tinnitus (which I've also had).

Thank you! Mine actually seems to have gone away after that night. Kind of weird but I'm so thankful. It was annoying the crap out of me and making me really irritable.

Yay! I'm glad to hear that! I wonder what causes it? It seems like the inner ear is having muscle spasms or something.

Me too. That's exactly what it felt like when I had it. I looked it up online and found that some people actually go to the doctor and get the muscles causing it cut. O.O I could not do that.

Yeaaaah I wouldn't have inner ear surgery for that unless my ear was spasming literally at all moments for weeks on end. Not occasionally. x.x Not much of a surgery girl myself.

I get that from time to time. Does your ear feel stopped up? It maybe your allergies, sometimes I also get it from weather changing. My ears do strange things!

Unless you are loosing your hearing, or it has been going on for weeks...I wouldn't worry about it. If it starts to last for a week though, you might wanna see a family doctor.

Oh definitely if it was just constant and I couldn't pay attention to my work. That is when I would probably opt to do it if it hadn't gone away in a few months or with medication perhaps.

Actually, it's gone now, but when it was happening, I think it could have possibly had something to do with the weather?

Yeah cause the change in weather causes the pressure to drop or rise. Also makes your broken bones/old injuries hurt. So since its changing into spring the weather is being odd...Sure thats it! :D
