For the past week or so I've had this pain that I thought was at the base of my skull/in my neck, but now I'm kind of thinking it might be my tonsils. Which scares the fuck out of me because I'm a vocalist with three different choirs - two performance and one church. If I lose my voice, I'm fucked. Singing is what I love...it's basically my oxygen and without it...I don't even want to think about that. I've always had neck problems though, so I was thinking maybe it was that, but no matter how much I massage it, it doesn't help. Tylenol and other pain meds don't really help either, but I've always been highly resistant to medication of any sort. It doesn't hurt for about an hour after I get up in the morning, but then it starts slowly hurting again. It hurts more when I breathe in hard sometimes or swallow (which is why I'm thinking tonsils) but there are also neck muscles/tendons/etc. involved with breathing or swallowing, so it could be either of those too I suppose. My lymph nodes and neck aren't swollen or painful at all. If this goes on longer that a few days more, I'm going to have to see a doctor. Which sucks because I don't have insurance and I'm broke, so my parents will be giving me the money for a doctor visit, and while they're happy to help, they're not rich either and I hate spending their money, especially if this turns out to be nothing.
So does anyone have any ideas? Maybe some kind of home remedy that acts like an antibiotic? I know this isn't Dr.Subeta, lol, but I'd like to know what anyone thinks about this.
If it is tonsillitis, most cases are viral, in which case antibiotics wouldn't do anything. Would go away in about a week in most cases anyway. If there's something wrong with your tendons/muscles, it'll probably last longer than that if you're not resting all the time.
Can you see down your throat with a mirror and torch/light? You should be able to see if your tonsils look reddish and swollen. If there's white spots on them, then you've got a bacterial form of tonsillitis. I can only speak from experience, but when I had tendonitis in my shoulder, I had similar symptoms with it coming on slowly after waking. The pain also felt 'burning' rather than sharp (unless I made a stupid sudden movement). You could try any throat numbing remedy to see if that helps, in which case you'd at least be able to tell if the problem if within the throat or elsewhere.

I'll try looking at it when I get home, or have my mom do it. I was thinking maybe strep throat too...but it just feels more muscular to me rather than like a regular sore throat. I do have some of that spray...stuff..at home that numbs your throat. Maybe I'll try that too.
Defiantly look at the back of your throat with a flash light to check your tonsils. Your tonsils are usually what swell when you are coming down with something (they are part if the lymphatic system, which goes hand in hand with the immune system). Either way, you should contact your doctor
In Dec of 2012, I had really bad Tonsillitis. My tonsils were super swollen and had white patches all over them. I had to go through two rounds of antibiotics to clear it up and I recently looked in the back of my throat with a flash light because I thought I was coming down with it again (it was just allergies) and there are scars all of my tonsils from the infection.
Anyway, hope you feel better soon
Might have been allergies/weather related. When the weather is being crappy, my throat tends to bother me.
And thanks. It makes me laugh too. I love the look on his face XD
