How many of you here wear glasses?
I went to the doctor the other day and he said I needed glasses. So today I went out with my bf to look at different frames and possibly buy one. The problem is, I've got very big eyes. I think that's the best thing on my face but many frames I tried are way too small and make my eyes look smaller than they are, making me look older (way older, like 30+, and I'm 18) and I end up feeling ugly. I don't want the glasses to make me feel ugly because I really need them.
So, suggestions? And talk about your glasses, too!
(PD: Sorry if this is in the wrong section, it's my first post!)
I'd probably have to look at you and the frames to see how it would work. I've been wearing glasses since first grade; They'll get dirty, and if you have pollen allergies, it's going to suck when it gets all over them. Can you deal with contacts?
I used to have contacts some years ago. The thing is, everywhere I go they only sell colored contacts and when I ask for normal ones to see better(ugh, can't remember the words) they're like 100$ more and even then they only last so long :(
Try a different store? Larger frames are actually popular lately, so I don't know why you're having trouble finding them.
DFTBA!
They're not very popular here? :S I've never seen anybody with large frames in my town. They're nice, too, I think they would work on me, but every store I've been to they only show me the same frames just in different colors no matter what I say... And I don't wanna be rude so in the end I just say thank you and go to another store!
The next time you're going to go to look at frames, take some pictures with you of ones that you like. Google them or bring a magazine or snap a picture of someone with ones that you like. That way there'll be no confusion when you ask someone to show you frames. Just shove the picture under their nose and say "I'd like frames like these." If they still don't understand...then damn...dunno what to tell you there. XD
Haha yeah I think I'm going to do that... I tried explaining to the woman in the store that I wanted different frames, she just kept coming back with different colors and saying "Oh this are totally in right now! It's what every teenage girl is using!". Next time I'll bring a picture with me!
Thanks! I will post some pics... I just hope I can find glasses that look good on me so I can show them off :P
I wear glasses and have since grade school. At first they can seem like a really big change because you aren't used to them, but don't worry you and the people around you will get used to it. The key is to finding frames that you like and feel fit your face and if possible your personality. If you have bigger eyes why not try some bigger framed glasses? I know it might seem overused but those hipster styled big glasses could work for you, not only that but you'll have bigger lenses to see more out of.
I have a pair of back-up glasses that have smaller lenses than the ones I have now and it's a pain because you can't fully see as much as you can with a wider lens. Not saying go crazy, but do what feels comfortable for you. Hope it gets better... There's also the idea of contacts, I use those too, one a day and just put on a new pair whenever I feel like wearing contacts that day.
- I've been wearing glasses ever since i can remember, probably as young as 1. They suck. You just find a pair that sucks the least and wear them. I wear contacts rarely now, my eyes are just getting too poor that contacts can't come strong enough for me to be able to wear them and see as well as I can w/ glasses, and it suuuuuuuuucks oh my god. The frame's ok, I guess. Plummy plastic squareish kinda. But they still suck.
collecting I've been there, I have. My issue is, Is that I have about average to large eyes but a more rounded face. Because of this, Most of the times when I would go to pick out frames or glasses, They looked horrible on me, which made me feel ugly. Some frames made my head appear larger, others made my eyes seem bigger/wider/smaller or overall out of proportion. My suggestion to you is that if you have large eyes, You can do what I did and get a more squared boys frame. Surprising it looked really good on me (I choose a 'feminine' purple) that really softened my features and suited me well. Just make sure they have a soft curve on the end. Good luck with glasses hunting, You'll eventually find a pair you like.
I've been wearing glasses since I'm 18 months old(19 soon to be 20 now). Black/Red and strong colours don't fit me: I go well with blue/Gold and stuff like that.
Take your time while choosing :) You need to check yourself and wonder i"hmm yeah it might be good"
I've worn glasses since I was three years old (turning 24 in August.) I'm nearly blind in my left eye and otherwise have what they used to call "lazy eye" in that same eye. Glasses are absolutely nothing new to me and they're a huge part of my personal identity - I'm so used to them that if I have them off for any length of time other than at night, I'm reaching to push them back up my nose. XD
Make sure you get someone who knows how to measure your face to better fit your glasses and get something you're comfortable with wearing most of the day otherwise. Big, bulky black frames may look cute but remember - you're probably going to be driving with those things and the frames can get a little heavy in cases, plus, you'll want to see around them.
NEVER use tissues or paper towels to clean your lenses. EVER. You'll scrape up the lenses like you would not believe (I never personally risked it.) Most lenses have clear coating now to protect them and papery things like that scratch it off. Oh, and photogrey lenses are loooovely - they'll darken if it's sunny out so you won't have need for sunglasses. Totally worth it, imho.
c: Sorry, lmao, glasses veteran here.

Guh, I just bought a new pair of glasses about a month ago. The ONLY frames anyone had for sale were over-sized hipster glasses or gaudy old lady glasses with really wide arms and embellishments all over them. I went to so many places and they all had the same crap because it's trendy right now to look like you live in a thrift shop. It took me two months to finally settle on a pair that I at least sort of liked. I want my face to be the first thing people notice about my face... not my glasses, but apparently everyone else wants super thick/super giant glasses right now that look like they came out of the 30s and 40s. Bad luck for me, I guess.
The best thing you can do is just keep shopping around in different places and trying things on. Go back to the same stores several times and even try on glasses that you've already tried on before. You'll eventually find a pair that you like.
Thanks guys for your suggestions! I've been looking at different frames online, but the only ones that seem big enough for me are those hipster ones, but they're also super thick! So I'll check out the stores around town and see if they carry those type of frames but thinner and/or in another color!
