I think he handled it with more grace and tact then she deserved.
WOW Coulter just wow. Now I'll admit to in the past having used "retarded" as an insult, but I was a teenager or pre-teen back then and stupid. Ann is 50 years old. She should know better for crying out loud!
I have to give props to this guy for not just calling her a heartless bitch and handling it with more tact than a lot of other people would have. He did not sink to her level, good for him. He's a role model for people, Coulter is definitely not.
[edit] inb4 she makes some sort of non-apology and claims everyone took what she said the wrong way.

Quite the opposite actually. A reasoned, beautiful response like this shows her up even more! The contrast between how the 'retarded' person responds to her remark makes her remark seem that much more crass and bigoted. I feel it was exactly what she deserved.

I see it through the eyes of the parent of a special needs child, so my perspective may be a bit skewed. People using that word as a put down makes me want to start beating sense into them.
"[signed]A friend you haven’t made yet"
Bam.
I looked on her Twitter, and the insult is still there. She also used the word 'retarded' in another tweet, so she has some kind of history of flinging this word around, apparently.
Ew, and I also just found this tweet:
wtf is wrong with this person...?
Yeah I looked on her Twitter too and it's a lot of batshit hooey. As to what is wrong with her, well this is what happens to people who never consider that they might be wrong or try to understand other people's opinions.

I saw it on tumblr and I was amazed at the way he responded to her. This reminds me of how people wrongly used the "gay" . = It just makes me mad seomtime.
Why can't the person who wrote this (better than I ever could have) letter be a politician? I feel our nations leaders, the talking heads, and every other national pundit can learn so much from him.
Aw shit son, he tore that letter up! Although, with someone like her, I doubt she cares at all.
I often listen to conservative talk radio (mostly because it's the only talk radio around here) on my way to work, and the other say I heard one of the host admonishing someone for using the word 'retarded' to call something stupid, and said that the issue had forced him to stop calling Ann Coulter a friend since she was so unrepentant about doing it repeatedly.
He went on about how he does understand and believe in free speech, but that it makes you a bad person to continue to insist on using it after seeing how hurtful it is to people with special needs and their caregivers (a family friend's child has Down Syndrome). He actually threatened to kick the fellow-Conservative, otherwise supportive caller off the show if he was going to continue to use the term, and while that sounds really harsh he said it in a very calm and straightforward way "like, listen, I know you probably don't know how hurtful and bad that is but I absolutely will not have it on my show so let's continue without it, ok?".
I was quite impressed. Breaking away from the 'lockstep' mindset of a fellow conservative pundit was one thing, but to do it in such a great 'just be a fucking person' way was even better.
