I did what that page said and danced with at least two of the NPCs (even Abagail), and I got all of the 'quotes' from them. But I'm still not able to get to the second part where I talk to Inspector Thorpe (I mean, i've talked to him, but the line he gives me hasn't changed)

the original post in that thread is wrong, and the thread creator isn't correcting it or around ot correct it. YOu can find the missing information in post 394 that I made (for me it's on page 9).

I managed to get past it after using another Anthony invite, and then Abagail's. Now I'm just collecting the 'bits and pieces' that I need.

it isn't necessary to collect the bits and pieces, only do that if you want to.. You can get to the cave/footprints without doing that.
