I cannot tell you how much this pisses me off. As a geologist and an environmentalist this makes me both extremely angry and sad. I'd call these people ass holes but that's insulting the real ass holes out there. That would have remained there without their interference for thousands of years more, probably millions. People like this have no respect for the earth.

I'd like them to have a hefty {10-100k} fine and prison time. THIS is the reason parks were protected in the first place!

Personally I think it wouldn't go astray to have idiots like these castrated, keep them from breeding...

Pretty sure that unless there was an earthquake, it wouldn't have moved.

Or some really badass wind.

I don't think wind would, well... maybe a tornado... but those are formed by wind blown sand over millennia. It's one of the slowest processes of of erosion )=

Either way, it was unlikely to fall unless someone or something was moving it.

I thought Boy scouts, in THEORY were supposed to respect nature? That organization is just...well, I won't get into it here.

I'm sorry, but if you had to wiggle it that much to get it to collapse, it would not have just fallen and killed somebody. Not to mention that there the space of only a few feet around that it could have fallen. The odds of a person being inside that space as that thing happened to fall are astronomical.

If it was wiggled and came down, that's dangerous as it is. That's not necessarily desecration of a landmark or otherwise.

A 'do not approach/touch' warning would have been suffice . do tell if they actually face charges (which i highly doubt) .

Assholes, I'd love to see them in prison but at the very least they should be barred from all National Parks for the rest of their lives.

Who the hell let that stupid redneck piece of trash become a Boy Scout leader anyways? They're so against gays being Scout leaders, but its okay to choose lowlifes to become one? He still says he did it to prevent the formation from falling on a kid. How the hell is some kid going to wander over in that area all by themselves, unless someone places them there? I think he really did this just to show off his redneck skills, and nothing more. Then he makes up the excuse about protecting kids to coverup his stupid ass because he knew he was going to get caught. I wonder if he would still feel that way if someone took a bulldozer and bulldozed his trees down in his yard, then told him the exact same shitty excuse? He and those other idiots should be permanently banned from ever entering anything nature based ever again. In fact, they should be banned from any museums as well just to be on the safe side.

You god damn ignorant hoodlums need to be fined and jailed for this. There was NO excuse to destory a rock like that. None. Way to be fucking leaders.

Update The "leaders" in question have been fired. A damn bit of good that does now...

And what arrogant ... I still can't come up with a good enough insult... I think "cancerous pustule on the backside of civilized society" fits- STILL say they were not in the wrong.

I want to see federal charges. And a lifetime ban from all parks. Though I am glad they're getting {very} publicly shamed.

This makes me so fucking angry. At first, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, because they might've actually thought they were protecting the kids, but after watching the video, that's a big fucking NOPE. It would be bad enough if it was a few stupid random people who did it, but Boy Scout leaders?! I can't even fathom what they were thinking... Nature has enough problems staying safe and un-vandalized from us stupid humans. It doesn't need shitheads like this "helping" it along, especially in protected areas. I'm so mad I want to cry.

OF COURSE the rock wiggles. It's supposed to wiggle. Skyscrapers and trees wiggle under pressure too, that's HOW they are able to be so tall without breaking.

Normally I'm not a fan of "making an example" out of people, but in this case, I feel like it's necessary. If other stupid people see them get off with basically no punishment, what's going to stop them from doing or trying similar things? Attention, even if it's negative attention, is all some people are after. Public shaming isn't enough in this case.
