Hi there, I don't know if there is a topic for this. I hope not, but I was thinking that it is very annoying always pushing the refresh button to check if there is new news at the front page of the site. So I was thinking that maybe it would be possible for Subeta to get simultaneous news-updates, like on your facebook front page? Thanks for making Subeta awesome <3 Hugs, Fromse

Don't we get an alert that there are new news no matter where we are on the site?
We do indeed. The 'new news' banner shoes up on every page I know of - that is to say, I've yet to even encounter a page where I can avoid it, since the wording on that banner is the bane of my existence.
You can already get a "New News" alert at the top of every page when there is new news. You have to have the option selected though. If you go here and check to enable Aggregated News Feed it should show the alerts for you. At least, I think that's the option that does it. Anyone feel free to correct me if it's not.
Edit: Hmm, actually, I think that might be the option to display the Announcements forum posts on the news page.. maybe? I dunno. Maybe you can't turn the "new news" thing on and off after all.
ANYWAY, the point is we do already have a "new news" alert at the top of every page on Subeta when there is new news.
Yes, I realize we have the alert, but that was not quite what I meant. Primarily because I'm too lazy I don't actually want to refresh the page if I want to see the new news, as I think that I have to, to see the new news, right? What I mean is that if I am at the news page, it should pop-up the new news by itself, without me refreshing. And I don't think that it does that already, right? I was thinking about this, because I always am afraid of missing for example token shop restock etc, when I have opened Subeta, but not are actually active because watching telly or so. An idea from lazyness, I know. I hope I'm understandable?

Ooh, gotcha. I think it would be awesome if the "new news" banner popped up on an open page but idle without having to refresh.
I'm pretty sure this isn't needed. If you're browsing the site, you get an announcement on every page you go to until you check the news page. If you aren't paying attention to the site then oh well? Put an autorefresh on the news page if you're worried about missing something.
I'm Tche and I approve this message.
"Laziness" isn't a reason good enough to modify a feature that already works really, really well.
Well, it was just a suggestion :) I see your argument, but I don't see how my suggestion could hurt either. Of course it isn't an essential update for the site, but I think it would be a nice modification :)

Do people actually just sit, unrefreshing, on the news page with some sort of regularity? Like, is that actually a thing?
This would be kinda cool I guess, kind of like how events just show up, the 'new news' banner could show up without refreshing.
But it is not like you have to be unactive on the site for this to be useful. It would also be cool, if you just were looking at the news site randomly(being active on Subeta), and the news would refresh, and it then would be faster to see the news. That would also make one's interest for staying on the site bigger, if you didn't have anything to do, and you then saw something new you could check out.

I can see this being really useful when I'm reading long threads on the forums. It is so annoying to sit reading for 15 minutes and not realize that there was new news the whole time.
Personally, I would like to have the option to receive sidebar alerts when there's new news, rather than having the banner at the top. The banner is useful about 90% of the time, but if, like said, you're reading a long thread on the forums, working on an HA, categorizing everything on your wishlist, playing a flash game, or doing anything else that involves staying on one page for a long time, it's easy to miss really important news even when you're being active on the site.
Just an idea, though.
Yes, that would be very effective as well . Good idea, but then again, it would be very annoying to recieve news-alerts all the time.

Yes, I know that we don't get that many daily, but I'm more thinking like, if you have been away for a little longer, like if you have been on holidays, then you'll be bombed with sidebar pop ups when you get home, just because of the news?

I guess? But the nice thing about the sidebar is they are grouped together by type, so if the news were all grouped together, you could delete them all at once. At least, that is how I delete group forum pings and training notifications. I can see how it would be annoying, but it is also easy to delete them. :)
