no it doesn't grant you an item, only the opportunity to buy. The opportunity to buy lasts until you make a purchase, and is good for just that one item. There no longer is any bargaining done in the shop, nor do discount cards apply.

I had an invitation which vanished after being to the shop and not making a purchase as the shop was empty :(
