Benjamin Strewth started out as a Zapper labrat, but now I've developed a story for him, and want to colorify him and make him a nice little profile-house to live in. He started out as a Common Montre, and I really like that design, but it's a little dull... so I'm looking for suggestions for other Montre colors that might fit his character.

I'm imagining him as kind of a reclusive academic, studying science, unfriendly but not rude. Broody, maybe. In my little imagination-story, he makes a friend (and possible love interest) who he becomes a sort of self-appointed caretaker/protector for... He's basically a broody sort of misfit with warm, gooshy feelings on the inside.

I'm kind of just considering making him a Common Montre and being done with it, because I'm not terribly keen on the other designs for that breed, but maybe someone else has a suggestion that might suit! I could even consider a different species than Montre if you've got a good suggestion.

I think a glacier pet could be a good fit for a character with a broody/reclusive personality - if not a montre, then maybe a mahar or pherret?

Oh, glacier is a good suggestion! The Pherret has a pretty neat design, that might work for him.
