Okay, I didn't know where to put this, but since it's of two different types of interfaces on Linux, I think this may be the place. I am curious as to what of the two KDE and Gnome is the "better" interface. I use mainly Linux Mint, and since they released Gnome and KDE both, I don't know.

@ Onstrike - It's not really a debate, more of a preference. I'm running LMDE and using KDE, because I despise gnome. KDE isn't that much better so much as it sucks less than gnome. KDE4 is terrible. Use what works for you, but also remember KDE/Gnome aren't the only ones out there. Try LXDE, XFCE, Fluxbox, Openbox.....
also make sure you have the smxi/sgfxi scripts as well as inxi. Life is good w/ them.

I think you're right about which is better on Gnome Vs. KDE. I don't know which would be a better release of a Linux distribution. I have used both KDE and Gnome versions of Linux Mint, but have yet to try LXDE of Mint 12. Currently my Netbook is running the KDE version of Mint 12. I haven't had many problems with it, thus far, since I installed it, merely a week ago. Do you suggest going to the LXDE version of Mint on the netbook, or should I stay the course with KDE?

- you can try LXDE, I have um... mint 10 or so, from Nov. of last year on this lappie, and the desktop has a very very old sidux install (sidux is no longer a distro, that's how old it is.) I prefer LMDE to plain Mint, because LMDE is Linux Mint Debian Edition, based on testing, and Mint is based on Ubuntu. I prefer being able to rolling release upgrade, rather than Ubuntu, which you have to reinstall to get a true upgrade.
Kidlet sometimes uses XFCE on the desktop as the system itself is eight years old roughly and KDE is so much of a bloated hog it runs horrifically slow sometimes on it.

Alright, I have a few computers that I regularly mess with, so I might try LXDE on my older desktop. I have noticed that KDE is comparatively, very bloated, but not as bloated as MS Windows. XD I do like the feel of KDE vs. Gnome, though, so I think I'll keep KDE on my netbook.

- With a netbook, have you tried peppermint ? It's a netbook friendly OS. I was going to put it on kidlet's netbook, but she's decided she's much rather have a tablet, so I left it alone. I've heard nice things about it.

I have tried Peppermint once, but switched back to using Win 7, which it came preinstalled with. After that point, I used the Gnome version of Mint. I just didn't like Peppermint as much as standard Mint.

I don't understand the appeal of KDE. It's all... big and flashy and... distracting. Personally I prefer something minimalist in both looks and features: I want my desktop to disappear, not steal focus from what I'm really on my computer to do.
Alas, Windows is a necessity for me now due to software compatibility issues with the Adobe suite. le sigh.
