Hello. I'm writing a paper on Pop music and I would like to know what you personally think about Pop music today. Answer as many of the questions, or just say anything you think relates. Thank you :) What do you think about Pop music today? Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? -pan

I really like pop music. While there are some aspects of it I dislike, I can enjoy it as a whole. I believe there are a bunch of talented artists in today mainstream music scene.

Hello. Thanks for the response :) A couple more questions: What aspects don't you like about it? Could you name a few artists which you would say are especially talented?

While I don't like the manufacturing and extreme commercialization of it, I understand it's a business after all. Also, I feel there's still plenty of space for more artists to blossom. I particularly like Lady Gaga, Sky Ferreira, Florence + The Machine, Sia, among others.

I think there are people that discount new music because it's new and old music just because it's old. Such as my 12 year old cousin who says "ahhh old music!" and switches the radio station without actually listening to it. Good music is good music and there were talented artists then and there are talented artists now (personally I like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Avicii + more).

There would be people who grew up in the 50s and 60s listening to romantic songs from Elvis or The Beatles and then heard someone like Prince in the 80s and thought what on earth is happening to music these days? And then there would be people that grew up in the 80s and 90s that listen to pop music now and say the same thing. Style and content changes but it's hard to say if it's boring or not because everyone has different tastes.

What do you think about Pop music today? - There are some nice songs but most of it I find boring. Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? - Nope. Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? -Not really. What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? - Rock, Metal, Celtic, Medieval, but also some Electro. Reason is...I grew up with it in a way, my first favorite bands when I was young were Iron Maiden, Metallica and Nirvana for example and from there it went on and on and never changed.

Pop music today is totally different than it was 20+ years ago, and that's okay. I don't think there's such a thing as "bad music", though, because every song has at least one person that likes it. I think pop music is more interesting instrumentally with new digital effects and such, though people may believe that that takes away from the "authenticity" of it. I think lyrics, however, are usually less interesting because it's hard to create new and completely original phrases and poetry. It's not all full of sexual content. I mean, a good majority of it is, but that's because people often write about things they enjoy or things that affect them. There are many older songs about sex, too. The only issue I have with sexuality in music is that it's common and accepted as okay when men talk about having sex and women are hated for it (ex. Beyonce was heavily criticized for part of her lyrics talking about having sex with her husband.) I usually listen to rock - things like the Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, Bastille, Panic! at the Disco, and Green Day are my favorites. This genre sometimes calms me down and I just have fun listening to it. I've loved Green Day ever since I can remember, especially, since I grew up with a dad who liked their music and they were on the radio, which I used to listen to often. Hope I helped a little. :)

I don't listen to music. But Billy Joel is pretty cool. And so are the Beatles. So yeah. Sex is bad. But only with the wrong person. So maybe people shouldn't sing about it. Because impressionable young folks. Music died with Elvis. Oh, but I like Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Sorry I don't know more about music, but I hope I helped.

What do you think about Pop music today? I think it's fine. Some stuff I like, some I don't.

Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? I think it all kind of seems the same. Especially lyric wise.

Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? There is a mix of both. Just like there was in the 80's and 90's.

What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? I listen to more alternative/rock/metal stuff than anything. I grew up listening to it, it was always in my house.

What do you think about Pop music today? I'm not sure... I don't listen to the radio or anithing like that (in the tv....). It doesn't interest me. But don't get me wrong, I LOVE music but pop music is usually the same and oversexually (is that a word in English? XD)

Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? When I was a child and teenager (I'm 27years old) I listened to pop music all the time. I loved the Backstreet Boys, Micheal Jackson, Robbie Williams, Spice Girls, Justin Timberlake etc. A few years ago I said that the music back then was much better than today but I don't think that anymore. It was just my teenage-time. That was the music I've grown up to. It is something important, I discovert the good feeling in listening to music! But it was just the beginning...

Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? I would say it never changed ;)

What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? I listen to all kind of music but I prefer Punk, Metal and Ska. WHY? I don't know. Those are just the beat and melodies that makes my heart fly (byebye...)!

(I'm sorry for any mistakes. It sounds reasonable to me ;))

What do you think about Pop music today? I think it mostly comes down to the artist, and sometimes even the song. I feel like people judge the genre too broadly, without giving anything that happens to fall under "pop" a chance. People also tend to think of themselves as better than others because they don't listen to pop, which is just silly and reminds me of elitist wine drinkers looking down on Coke drinkers(I compare music to food a lot, just seems the easiest way of putting it).

Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? I enjoy listening to new music as much as music from the 80s, so I'd say so. Some new techniques for making music have come about since then, too, so there's a lot of potential still. (For anyone interested, I especially think this is really cool. :D Go to around 13:30 if you wanna see just the performance.)

Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? I wouldn't say that everything new is all about sex, just as everything old wasn't necessarily "from the heart". :P

What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? I give just about anything a chance. I do have certain genres I listen to more(I have more symphonic metal CDs than I do country, for example), but that's mostly because it's easier to find things you like if you look at bands that are similar to what you already listen to, especially with Pandora. But I like variety, so I've got stuff like Nightwish, Breaking Benjamin, Lady Gaga, and Lindsey Stirling on my iPod. /shrug

What do you think about Pop music today? Some of it's good to listen to, to dance to, but most of the lyrics don't seem to have any real substance to them. A lot of it just seems to be about sex and drugs. There are some songs and artists who write about things that matter, things that are good, but generally not. Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? I'm not sure what you mean by interesting. Pop music from the 50s or 60s, while cleaner than that of today, wasn't really that interesting, at least to me. So I guess I'd say it's about the same. Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? Yes, that's my generally feeling of it. What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? I usually listen to music from Celtic Woman - both albums from all of them together and their solo work. They're my favorite because you can understand what they're saying (it's not just a bunch of yelling), their lyrics actually mean something (and don't contain...nasty things), and they're just really, really darn good, lol. I do listen to just about anything though...if you looked at my playlists, you'd probably be surprised at the variety.

What do you think about Pop music today? The words "pop music" make me cringe. Some songs have awesome beats but no meaning. Plus auto tune. No one sings with their real voice anymore, it's all adjusted to sound exactly the same as all pop singers out there. Ugh. There's just no soul to it, no actual passion.

Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? I loved pop when the Spice Girls were popular (1998 ish I think?). They actually represented 'girl power' and didn't sing about clubs and sex and whatever other garbage is on the airwaves now - they sang about love and friendship! Needless to say, music like this would not be popular today. But still, even with their good intentions, they were still all about making as much money as possible for the producers. Their music quickly became about that and only that. And this goes for every pop artist out there.

Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? The 21st century is all about hypersexual artists who know they'll get attention from the media if they twerk their stuff on national TV (yes, I'm looking at you Miley). So yes, I would say it's now all about sex and selling that image. Pop artists are seen for their looks before their music. I'm sure that's always been the case but it's even more prominent now.

What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? Needless to say, I don't listen to mainstream anything. Of course, there are occasional popular songs that I'll enjoy listening to but I mostly like indie/underground bands of any genre. I mostly stick to rock, folk, and alternative :) all stuff that's not corrupted by a label. Oh and classic rock. Love it. Just to list a few of my favorites: the Kooks, Led Zeppelin, Pete Yorn, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White (The White Stripes, the Raconteurs...I love any band he's been in), Vampire Weekend, The Dirty Heads, Jethro Tull.

What do you think about Pop music today? I like it. I think of pop as more of a broadly appealing sound + universally relatable themes that are easy to dance to. I would file Ellie Goulding, Lady Gaga, Lorde, and that kind of thing under 'pop' and I enjoy all of them.

Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? I know the Beatles and such are sacred cows, but in my opinion they're boring as shit. I like the sound of electronic music so yeah, I like where things are going. There's also SO MUCH STUFF out there. I don't like 90% of stuff on the top 40 but I think of pop more broadly than that I guess.

Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? Standards of 'decency' on the radio changed and songs about sex were a natural progression from that, I think. People have sung about life experiences since the invention of music, and sex is one of them. Some medieval stuff would make you blush--this is not a new development in music.

BASICALLY I don't think sex is a less legitimate subject to sing about than love or heartbreak or driving a tractor or whatever. The nice thing is there's enough variety out there that if you'd rather hear about different stuff there's stuff tons of music out there.

What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? Er, just...a lot of indie/electronic/alternative stuff? I don't listen to a ton of pop but it's a good chunk of what I like too.

What do you think about Pop music today? If you mean American pop music, then tbh, it's really lame. I mean, K-pop (my fave btw, don't judge me lmao) is repetitive too but omf, it's a bit more different than American pop. Pop music before (90's/00's) is much better than today, tho.

Would you say that Pop music is as interesting as it used to be? Nope. It's gotten to the point that it kinda sounds all the same and overusing EDM-themed music.

Would you say that it is really just full of sexual content instead of old 'from the heart' kind of stuff? Nowadays, kinda~ but then again, it's not even hidden.

What type of music do you usually listen to? Why? K-pop and J-rock. K-pop mostly because it just has a unique sound to it, and yeah, the lyrics can have it's innuendos but at least it sounds good! J-rock; I've been listening into that genre since 2004 and it's still lovely. ;u;
