I see this all the time and have never understood it, so I'd like to hear your case! I personally do not see the benefit here. Do you check up on them and go "oh good, he's still angelic"? If the pet has been changed are you disheartened in some way?

As I understand it, if you're adopting out a pet it's because you've lost interest in the pet and have decided someone else, someone who is interested in it, can now have it and make it their own. You're relinquishing any work you've put into the character and story (unless you're transferring those to another pet), treasure slots, stats, profile, all of it - why not colour? If someone else has this great new character idea for the pet but it would really suit another species more, what's the problem? If you want your own vision for the pet to carry on, a) why not keep it and b) why give someone else power over that vision? When I'm attached to some aspect of a character I don't want to pass that aspect on to someone else for them to fool around with it, I want to develop it until it's something I actively want to work with.

So yeah, looking to hear the other side of opinions on this, just out of curiosity. I personally have not ever encountered it head-on while adopting, but see that little disclaimer constantly.

[edit] Follow up question because this is getting a lot of "if that's the main feature of a pet I'd rather it not change" - if that really is the most appealing thing about a pet, don't you think it'll just attract people who want it for the colour anyway?

Even if not, let's say you're adopting out xOxO369 the low-statted angelic. Obviously it's unlikely that there's someone after the name, so the main appeal there is the colour. But what if someone really wants a pet with its birthday for x, y, and z reasons and would change everything else about it. Why would that deter you? The sP is gone either way, and what good does it do you to have paid to make the pets on someone else's pet pretty?

This always kinda confused me as well. I see it happen kinda often tbh. I mean...I will say that if I adopt a pet for the name and it's something like an angelic, I feel bad changing it...since that person probably did potion it and all that good stuff, but I can't keep a pet the same color and stuff if it doesn't suit the idea I have for the bab. Even though i get overlays or art for it...it still bugs me for some reason LOL;; If I was adopting out said pet, I would want the person to have the freedom to change it into something that would suit their ideas.

I have always wondered this as well. I am sure it has a lot to do with the attachment/time/sP invested in a pet, but then why adopt it out? I am curious to see some responses on this.

I am thankful that Arctic and Favorite were both common kumos and their owners did not care what I turned them into. :)

I imagine if a pet has a less than desirable name, but a really good color, someone might want that color to be put into use, and have the pet be adopted by someone who adores that species/color. I mean if I had a pet named FluffyBottom89, but it was an angelic telenine or something, and the rest of the pet was less than spectacular (stats, tc, ect), I think I'd rather the pet go to someone who wants an angelic telenine. Since angelic costs USD and there is no other way to get one other than the potion lottery, I'd probably feel better if the color wasn't changed and "wasted." If I was zapping pets, and I got a really nice experiment that a lot of people want, I'd ideally want the pet to go to people who like that experiment.

...This more hypothetical and all, but it's where I assume (atleast most) people are coming from with it. xD

If you don't want the pet changed, then don't forfeit ownership. It's foolish to continue to desire to control the pet after it's no longer yours. That's my feeling, anyway.

For me the ONLY thing I ask is I'm notified if they no longer want the pet. This is simply because I like to know if a pet I worked on even a bit is an option to rework again. Otherwise I'm in agreeance with the angel/ harder to get colors. Yes once i hand a pet over to you it's your choice to do what you will but if I spent $$ for a rename or actual potion then i'd be upset that they didn't keep it.

Also another irksome thing is when somone goes on how they like the name/ species/ color of a pet then a week later they disowned it or changed everything about it. At least keep the pet a bit if you prattle on how awesome some part of the pet is you know?

FINALLY GOT THE 15K WARDROBE DONE!!!!! Next up gutting and selling it.

Pure preference, honestly. If I feel that the main feature of a pet is its color, then yeah, I'd prefer no color changes. I guess it's if the color is expensive or something along those lines. If not, then... whatever. Then again, once I pound the pet, or give it to someone else, I'm no longer its owner. I have no authority over it, or whatever they decide to do with them. And I won't give the new owner hell if they do end up changing the pet's color - after all, they are doing something with them. Pure preference, that's all. ovo

If I'm going to adopt out one of my pets (and I've been doing that a lot lately and have decided to just have one pet), I usually erase everything on its profile and if it's a really expensive color, I use a Common Potion on it before putting it up for adoption. I don't really know why I do that, I just don't want somebody just nabbing a pet that I spend millions of sP on coloring, you know? But that's only if I colored it, if I adopted a pet and it was already specially colored in the pound, I don't turn it into a common pet before putting it back in. In other words, if the pet was colored a certain way before I adopted it, I leave it like that. But if I myself have changed it to my preference, I like to "reset" them back to normal before letting someone else have it. I don't care what they do with it afterwards.

I don't care if someone wants to change the colour/species on a pet, even if I put a lot of effort into changing it. What I care about more than anything is whether someone is going to actually make a character for the pet, and if they change it to match the character they made up for it, then great. If they lose interest later on, then that doesn't bother me either. If I give up the pet, it's not mine anymore, honestly, I should've put more thought into it or something.

I don't normally feel guilty if I change a pet's species, although one thing I did feel bad for was changing an experiment pet into a common one, then basically threw it right back into the pound xD; It was a lovely , but I already have one of those and so I zapped it and it turned into a boring common pet. Within a few days of adopting the thing I lost interest in the name because I realised the story I thought of could apply to a different pet, so I threw it back into the pound where I got it :P Sorry person.

Now I usually wait until after I've completely thought of a story to change the pet, which is why most of my pets aren't the species I want them to be. 2 out of 5 are the correct species.

Every now and then, I'll look up pets that I've pounded or transferred over to other users to see what changes have been made, but I like to think I'm generally p nonchalant either way. Most recently, one of mine whom I had completed working on but given up on and removed the profile coding/story/etc was adopted and everything was changed - gender, species, colour. It was actually quite interesting seeing the different interpretation someone took on a pet who had been created with a specific idea in mind.

Imo, if you're adopting out a pet, then it's because you no longer want it. The offence inherent in finding out that someone has changed 'your' pet when you've already rescinded ownership is being overly possessive.

I can understand why people would be upset about changing a pets' colour, especially if the Original owner poured a lot of sP/CSC/Tokens into getting just the right species. Ideally, when we adopt out pets, we want to find someone who'll love everything about the pet just as much as we do, but that hardly ever happens.

For myself I am more a fan of names than anything, so as long as someone appreciates the name, I'm fine. I have adopted out a few pets in the past, and the one thing I asked was that the names remain, partially because I like to visit my pets and see how they're doing in their forever homes. If I adopt a pet from the pound, I think it becomes more worth it to find a good name and then put in the time and funds to colour it myself.

I honestly don't mind, but then again, I'm more likely to adopt in than adopt out. When I do adopt out, I couldn't care less. It does bother me when someone gives me a bombshell application that hinges on future plans regarding characters/battle/roleplay/art/whatever and then I check back months later and find the pet rotting on the account. That only gets to me because when I adopt out, there are usually multiple folks interested in a pet. I would rather not look back on a pet and feel like I made the wrong choice in who I gave the pet to. Like maybe the person who wrote the "second-best" application actually WOULD have done something with that pet, and the one I gave it to let it rot. It's happened. It's annoying. But if I no longer own the pet, it's no longer my responsibility. That will always be the case.

Funny thing about me, though, is that I will work my butt off to work with the pets I apply for/take in in their current state (that is, color, species, and gender). I figure if someone took the time to make them the way they did, I may as well at least try to see what they saw in the color. If I can't work with it, I can't, but I really like the challenge even if the previous owner didn't mention any preferences about retaining the color/species. Granted, I applied for two pets recently that I have every intent of changing if I am accepted for, but this is pretty much one of the first times I've felt that way. It's never about the rarity of the color for me, but about the character invoked by the whole package (name, gender, color, species). Satisfy the female Reborn Jollin. I could change her, but the smug face of the Reborn Jollin is telling me as much about her as the name "Satisfy" is.

...oh god I am a pet-obsessed weirdo. but it's ok because awareness is the first step to recovery, right? xD
