I love cats but this certain group of cats keep pooping in my garden. I think they are from the house at the back of mine.
The poo itself doesn't look very healthy to me anyway it's all mushy and I'm sure I saw some things moving in it :S
I have a little boy and he loves to play in the garden so I am trying to deter the cats away from certain areas..
Anyone have any home remedies that have worked, or a product bought in stores?
You could try spraying something like lemon juice or some other kind of citrus in your garden, or maybe even leaving out citrus peels. Cats don't really like citrus smells so they might avoid your garden. But it's probably something you'll have to keep up with, maybe even daily because the dew and rain would wash the smell away.
You could get a =search&sclient=psy-ab&q=motion+sensor+sprinkler&oq=motion+senso&gs_l=hp.1.2.0l4.1065.7349.0.8759.12.8.0.4.4.0.101.738.6j2.8.0...0.0.0..1c.1.17.psy-ab.NEgXIIkbHaA&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.48340889,d.cGE&fp=522be3f4542a7d02&biw=1600&bih=799">sprinkler with a motion sensor. Or you could build something at the top of your fence to prevent cats from being able to climb in. Like if you can add an extension to the top of your fence at a 45 degree angle, that should stop a cat from climbing it. =psy-ab&q=45+degree+fence+extension+cat&oq=45+degree+fence+extension+c&gs_l=serp.1.1.33i29i30l4.5125.5935.2.7769.2.2.0.0.0.0.116.203.1j1.2.0...0.0.0..1c.1.17.psy-ab.O6H9teyx768&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=522be3f4542a7d02&biw=1600&bih=799">Here's a google linky.
There's also these things here that spray air, but you'd need a few of them and they'd be annoying to turn off and on individually (if your kid plays in the garden he'll be setting him off himself, so you'd probably want to turn them off when he's out). But it's worth mentioning.
I've heard of using certain scents to repel cats like citrus or pepper or whatever but I don't believe those things actually work x: My cats don't seem to mind the smell of citrus and I can't picture placing pepper in an area to bother them enough to stop going there (plus I'm sure the scent wears off after a while anyway).
I have already tried with the citrus unfortunately it wasn't very effective :(
I will try the cat alarm! At the moment I have just bought some cat deterrent with garlic extract and some garlic cloves apparently they don't like the smell. I am to repeat it every 48 hours. Fingers crossed it will work. Thanks for your help (:
Smells: lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil, mustard oil, coffee grinds
You could also plant Rue which cats hate or even sprinkle it in your garden.
Or even Cat Scat Mats~ they are harmless to cats but they don't like the feel of them.

Thank you (: I will keep a look out for that plant, I also saw another plant which says is a cat deterrent, I will try both.
It should be in the herb section in your garden store~

I've heard of some kind of sulfur stuff you spread around that keeps all animals out of gardens. I don't know if it smells that bad to humans or not.
Thanks I'll take a look.
Still been finding the occasional poop in the soil but I'm going to carry on with the deterrent as I am seeing less of these neighbours cats.
This thread is just what I needed to see too. I don't have a problem with the neighbors' cats crapping in my garden (at least I've never seen any evidence of it), but my next-door-neighbor has two cats who like to sit under my bedroom window and yowl back and forth with my own two cats (neighbor's are male, mine are female). And they usually do this at some God-awful hour of the morning, especially on nights when it seems I have to get up early the next day. I hate it because I've taken to just leaving my window shut, but then it gets so hot that I have to open it or die, but then the damn cats are there again. I don't like how it stresses out my own kitties more than anything. I can deal with less sleep, but I don't like them getting upset. I'm going to try some of the things mentioned here.
It smells awful to humans...me at least, lol. Sort of a combination of rotten eggs and death. I used it around my veggie garden last year to keep the deer out, and not only did it smell awful, but it didn't even work. I don't know if I just got a crappy version of it or what, but I won't be using it again.
