My parents are downsizing since I'm going to college, but they're hesitant to hire a realtor because they charge so much.
Any tips/tricks? Leasing is an option.
Educate yourself thoroughly and don't buy in right away to those programs that provide you with materials and stuff to do it yourself. Admittedly if you're not ready to do a lot of legwork, really, really educate yourself about the legal aspects, the local market (including your street), and everything that goes along with it, a realtor is probably a good idea. A good realtor is going to give you the reality check that most sellers need.
