I just adopted a new pet from the pound (glee!) and I'm looking for some treasure chest ideas, as well as a minion.
This is Vask. They're female right now but they'll be agender as soon as I get my hands on one of those damned berries.
Essentially the story is that Vask was 'rescued' by an amateur cybernetics mechanic looking for spare parts in a junkyard. Vask's body had already been scavenged for its pieces-- their back leg was missing, for one, and they seemed to have a defect in their internal workings that sometimes caused their 'heart' to stutter or flicker out entirely. Their memory and personality cores had also been scavenged, and truth be told, the heap of parts the mechanic found in that junkyard could barely be classified a living thing anymore.
But she hauled it into her truck and took it home anyway, because cyberneticists can rarely afford to be choosy about where they get their experience or what projects they take on. Over the next few months, she cleaned up Vask's extensive rust and started refitting them for new parts, including tinkering with a new memory core of her own invention. Vask is still a work in progress, but they're slowly regaining what little life they can.
Eventually Vask will have an overlay that makes them look like some of their rust has been cleaned up a little-- albeit shoddily-- and some of their broken parts have been fixed, or are in the process of being fixed. (Unsure about what to do with the back leg, though-- fire suggestions at will! I don't want to replace it, but I don't totally like the idea of all those wires just hanging out there. It'd probably be one of the first things their new caretaker saw to, but how?)
I'd really like to give Vask a minion that wasn't a typical robo-pet; something they could've befriended in the junkyard, maybe, or something the mechanic gave them to keep them company. I'm pretty stuck on the treasure, though! (Budget is not an issue.)
Seriously, guys. Throw ideas at me.
