So for the past at least.. 2 weeks or so, I've had pain in my tailbone. It makes it kinda hard to sit, I either have to sit up very straight or slouch a lot so there isn't a lot of pressure on my tailbone basically. I don't remember falling or hitting it any time, though I do ride my bike to school and back daily (about a mile) and the roads can sometimes be pretty bumpy. I just assumed I fell and it'd get better but it hasn't, and for some reason today was the first day I decided to actually feel it and I felt a bump. The bump is below my skin and I can't see it at all so I don't know if it's possible it's a cyst (cause I think those you can see raised up kind of like pimples) Does anyone have any ideas? The most common cause of tailbone pain is coccygodynia, but I have no idea of its causes or how long it lasts. Could be a cyst or worse... any ideas?

I will be calling my doctor monday to make an appointment, just wanted to get some ideas here first.

Glad to see you're consulting a doctor, that's the major thing.

I fractured my tailbone a few years ago by falling down the stairs. It wasn't a bad fall, I just slipped and kind of bumped down the last two stairs on my butt. I got up, finished getting ready and went to a movie where I sat for hours and I was fine. It wasn't until weeks later that I started noticing pain when sitting on certain chairs or especially if I tried to sit on the floor. It may be that you damaged yours weeks ago and it's just now starting to bug you, or it may be something else entirely.

In the meantime you may want to try to sit more on your legs (thighs) than on your butt, especially if you're sitting on a hard chair.

I just googled coccygodynia and say that you can bruise your coccyx by riding your bike

Quote
Coccydynia is often reported following a fall or after childbirth. In some cases, persistent pressure from activities like bicycling may cause the onset of coccyx pain.[5] Coccydynia due to these causes usually is not permanent, but it may become very persistent and chronic if not controlled.
This is from Wiki. You said you don't remember falling and I'm guessing you haven't recently given birth, so it's probably from riding your bike on bumpy roads. Try taking some Ibuprofen and ice it till you can get in to see the doctor.

Yeah, it sounds like coccydynia, but there is never hard lump under skin under symptoms so I feel like maybe it could be something else, or maybe that's just inflammation? It's a really hard bump that almost feels like a bone but I know it's not.. unless my bone moved lol

Might've bruised it too (yes, bone bruises)- in which case the only thing you can really do is take some anti-inflamitories and wait it out -which takes months and hurts like a bitch :/

If you have a bump though it's best to go to the doctor, and rule out a cyst.

Coccygeal pain can also come from referred pain in the lumbar spine. Lower back sore too?

No, it's really just my tailbone. Oddly enough after a few weeks of it hurting constistantly it's finally going away.
