I recently adopted Ashni, whose name is of Sanskrit origin, meaning "lightning". I plan on doing something in the lines of lightning goddess/deity. However, I have little to no contact with Hindu people and I really don't want to be offensive, though I intend to study Hinduism to make an accurate pet story.
Does anyone have any ideas or can help me with brainstorming, please?
what kind of story do you want as in romantic ,adventure etc?
I was thinking something along the lines of her being one of Indras (the god of rain and thunderstorms) daughters. Then she eventually gets more powerful than him and, because he has too many vices and she's "pure", takes over his function. So, adventure, I guess. I still have to mature this idea, though.
indra is considered to have a ego. his ego gets hurt easily . he also get scared very easily if he sees someone who is more powerful than him and does not hesitate to go to any measures to stop that. He is lord of sky so if anyone is more powerful than him that person can easily take his place,, in your story it's her daughter.
Btw i really like your idea of story.. i just gave you some characteristics of INDRA .. you can ask me anything if u want any details about something. ❤ :blob:
Thank you! That's really helpful :D Do you have any idea what one could do to become more powerful?
Feel free to take a look at Khan I need to work on him more but he has a lot of the Hindi things including food.

Sorry to ping, but I figure you might have some ideas considering you take Hindu?
Thanks for the ping, ! YOU KNOW THAT I AM ALWAYS DOWN TO TALK ABOUT HINDUISM.
I am studying Hinduism (and Hindi) at university, so if you have any questions I would be happy to help you out! I like the idea of being a daughter of Indra, and with Hindu myth Indra was overshadowed and later absorbed by the bigger deities, so it would be an interesting component to have his daughter become more powerful. Like said, Indra is a god with an ego pretty much the size of India. He is a warrior god that can drink copious amounts of soma and still come out on top.
Also something interesting that you may want to look into is that when Indra slays Vrtra in the Rg Veda he does so with a thunderbolt, so perhaps the origin of Ashni could come from that? It is also interesting that when Siva becomes more prominent the puranas refer back to Indra slaying Vrtra and gives Rudra (who later becomes Siva) the credit for Indra being able to slay Vrtra by the fever that he brings on.
I think you have a good amount of items already for a TC, and more will come up once you flesh out the story a bit. Feel free to comment/smail/ping me any time because like I said I love to geek out about this stuff!
And ugh this makes me want to make a Hindu pet so badly, omfg.
OMG I WOULD ADORE TO SEE A HINDU PET BY YOU.
Also I love hearing you talking about Hinduism haha
omg thanks thanks thanks! I'll send a comment later, it's nearly midnight where I live and I have class tomorrow morning. I'll try and write a bit - at least trace the storyline - and get into what you said about Indra saying Virtra. If you could get me some more info about him being overshadowed and absorbed that would be A++ because that could be the moment when Ashni takes his place.
You are most welcome! If you want I can even send you specific myths that you may want to look at. The Indra Vrtra myth is admittedly one of my favorites, so happy to give you more details when you have time to process!
