So apparently there is a new camera on the Hubble telescope? Which I don't understand entirely, because it's been in space for years, but I think they just activated it or something, or just hooked something up to it like... remotely, because it took a bunch of freaking amazing pictures. There are a few in there from some other satellites as well.
Imo the coolest part about images like these is that they aren't visually enhanced in any way. THESE THINGS EXIST IN REAL LIFE, Y'ALL.
Fellow space nerds, rejoice in the amazingness of space pictures!!
thanks for linking to these great images.
They are all gorgeous but I especially liked the pigtail molecular cloud and southern lights as seen from the International Space Station.

I actually really liked the lights as well because it looked like the light was almost a physical object that was rising above the Earth. Such a cool effect!
The one with the cosmic clouds is beautiful!
I hate to be that person, but, didn't you see that Tumblr post that showed how they make those photos and they're actually processed to make them look so nice? Bummer to me, and I just don't think they're that nice anymore.
..... ooh I think I just nerdgasm'd.
collecting Some of it HAS to be done though... like it something can only photograph in black and white.. you set it to take a photograph of what would be the range or red visible light, then blue, etc, and then process them so those areas and intensities are actually show in color.
Just because it's processed doesn't mean it can't be as representative as we know how to do so far as well.
TOO GORGEOUS FOR WORDS
who cares if they're processed we probably wouldn't be able to see much of anything if it wasn't
