just wondering if 'masquerade item' are usually released throughout the whole event or just near the beginning.

I want to say it's around 3-4 weeks usually but I can't remember. I'm sure someone with a better memory than mine will come along to give you more accurate information :)

last year we got about four releases, the year before, we got two.

It started 18 March last year. There doesn't seem to have been an announcement of the end in the News- Subeta was having another server crash/replacement at the same time., but there's a Steamworks release as late as 11 April and Vesnali started 24 April.
