So by now we've all seen the update to the cash shop that allows users to submit items directly to the store without the need for slots. This is, all things considered, a pretty cool feature. And I would love to use it... were it not for the bold print attached: The fact that after 90 days, items submitted this way will be irrevocably retired.
Now, some people are not bothered by this. And the staff have stated that it's there to control item clutter and "retain value on items". And all that's well-and-good from a practical standpoint.
However, there's more than a few people who are still greatly turned off by the idea of having their items retired, permanently, beyond their own control.
So, I suggest an alternative to the forced retirement: Forced removal with a small charge to resubmit.
Essentially, it's the exact same system that is in place now. However, instead of the item being retired permanently and irreversibly after the 90 day limit, it's only "removed" from the shop. At this time, the item creator could put it back on - for a price.
I don't know what the pricing would be, persay, perhaps the cost of the item itself? In any case, this would allow people the option of keeping their items available while still placing some constraints on the process to prevent flooding.
Think of it this way, an item creator could announce to their forum group that the item in question had been removed, and then people on the fourms could tell the creator if they wanted the item available again or not, sort of thing.
If you want your item retired after 90 days, then just don't put it back on. But if you're like me and you want your items available all the time, you could just restock them every few months.
Just my little suggestion regarding this whole fiasco.

I wouldn't mind a time span too (ex. resubmission is possible after six months) but I'd definitely prefer if we didn't have any more of these "never again" rules.
Especially because my personal experience is that things do take a while to sell in the CS, despite the increased visibility.
I don't even make/commission CWs and I'm put off by the forced retirement idea.
I like this idea. And this change would encourage me to maybe put a CW directly in the cash shop.
Yeah, the forced retirement rule is ridiculous. Having the items in the shop for six months with a charge to resubmit is a good idea.
I wouldn't mind the forced retirement if it wasn't forever ever ever retired. Maybe if there was either a fee to resubmit, or a minimum retirement time. One or the other (or both).
The retirement aspect is understandable, considering subeta is taking a risk with these items (1.5k csc vs. 5k) and if 0 copies sell.. they took that 3.5k hit, not the user. So the prospect of forever retirement could draw users to buy things-- however, that would also require them to make a news post every week or so showcasing the new CWs in the Cash Shop. A lot of us depend on news/pings to notice new things-- we don't just stalk them. (If not a news post, a CSCW staff run ping group? Where staff members could ping it once a week or whatever to let us know what's gone in there? .. is that someone that could happen maybe? If one of y'all don't mind making a board/group/pinging everyone that is.. I know I'd appreciate the pings/etc)
But I wouldn't mind having a x month cool down before the item could be resubmitted. Something like 6 months to a year. Just because man, it sucks when you miss something and will never have a chance to get it unless someone sells.
Either way I still plan to use this, because I'm lazy and making a board and dealing with slots is such a bother. And fronting all the money yourself just to get it through is a gamble if no one wants it.
I have a CW to submit that looked like it would be perfect for this, but I am so turned off by this forced retirement... its just not gonna happen. I'll continue to sit on it.

I really prefer this idea over a permanent retirement of the CWs in the shop.I really hate for them to retire for good, because then you might have a hell of a time trying to find anybody selling that particular item,if at all.
Like a good neighbor, stay over there!

Now that I think about it, this really isn't any different from releasing set batches of an item, other than the fact that you can't decide how many "batches" fill this way.
I do agree there should be a way to re-add them for a fee later, because this method sounds great for items that are meant to stay in the CS but it's really not, with the permanent retirement.
Yeah ._. This is why I'd rather not have permanent forever retirements, not even if there was a news post every week showcasing the new CWs.
The new system feels perfect for some more basic items the site still needs and people would have trouble filling a batch quickly... so having them permanently out of the market is a loss for both users (who will never get it because no one will uncling to their copy) and Subeta (who doesn't get the cash)! Especially when maybe close to no copies sell in the CS, which could totally happen because people were out of cash when they saw the news/pings, or because they forgot to buy, etc. Also I always feel for the newbies / newcomers to the CW world, haha.
I know this happens when people sell batches and/or items are private but... when you miss out on the perfect item and it was something that was on the CS it's just so awful. I've been there, it's like... forever headdesking x_X Even more so when it's YOUR item and other people ask about it, but there's nothing you can do.
I think we're all in pretty solid agreement here that the biggest turn off is the "FOREVURRR!!!" Aspect.
I'd be cool with a cooldown just as much as renewal fee. Both would feel a tad stingy but it'd still be better than losing control of the item entirely.

We put it up for a few reasons
When you put your item in the CW cash shop you take away a lot of your own ownership of the item for the ease of having all of it taken care of for you. This is one of those things. :)

I really don't mind this feature at all. In fact, I welcome it. Once it's done I don't have to worry about it and I know in 90 days I'll be able to get all the copies I want/need. I'm sitting on some items with unfilled batches that I'd rather have gone through this process so everyone who wanted it could get it and I could be done with it. I think 90 days is an appropriate time frame for starters and plenty of time to stock up on copies if you think you may want some for when it retires.
