Some people are probably going to say I'm an idiot for actually crying over this. But today I came home and was exhausted and in pain because of a hamstring injury I've had for three days that isn't getting any better. I wanted to play Bioshock 2, kill some big sisters for funsies and to get my mind off things, only to have the disc not work. It looks like it's going to work, but it stops at the black screen that comes up before the game starts. When I try to go to the home screen after staring at the black screen for 20 minutes, it freezes and I have to manually restart. Does the game thing with any disc I put in. So I looked the problem up online to see if there was something I could do about it and found out that it's probably the laser that reads the disc is either misaligned or no longer working right or maybe a dead processor. So I looked at Microsoft's tech support and they want $79 to fix it because my warranty is no good anymore. And that repair would take 4-6 weeks. I can't be without what's basically my only social outlet for that long. I have sociophobia and anxiety issues, I have trouble talking to people face-to-face, so some days my xbox is the only time I talk to people. It's the only contact at all I have with some of my friends because we're spread out so far, no one can afford to travel to visit. So I found a place in town that can fix it, but they want $90. And that's if they don't have to order parts or anything. I work one day a week, two if I'm lucky, at just over minimum wage. I have less than I'd care to talk about in my checkbook. $90 may as well be $9000 for me. My friend joked that I should start a Gofundme, that other gamers would probably help, but I don't think anyone would help me. Then I was thinking I could offer sculpey things for USD on here, but I don't know that anyone would really be interested. I don't know what to do. I've actually been crying over this like a lame-ass idiot. My parents won't help me. They don't consider it important enough. So I came on here just to rant I guess. I don't know what else I can do. My father seems to think I can just make a job appear out of thin air. I'm trying, I really am, but it's just not good enough. sigh

tl;dr: Xbox died and I don't really have the money to fix it and I'm crying like an idiot.

[edit] And now life has shit on me yet again. I have what I am positive is a UTI. Ugh. -_- So I had to spend some of what tiny itty bit of money I had on cranberry pills because my doctor's office isn't open until Monday. FML.

hugs No judgement here. I cried when my PS2 broke. I stood there in tears saying, "But I haven't beaten Kingdom Hearts yet".

I hope you're able to get the funds together to fix it hugs again

I totally understand where you're coming from. I never cry over objects, but I cried knowing I couldn't get the new Animal Crossing for the 3DS because I get really lonely but have difficulty talking to people in real life. It's never just the game itself, you know? I really wanted something to socialise on and have fun with other people but was/am too poor to get such things.

So I don't think it's stupid at all -- it's only stupid if looked at on the surface, and if someone thinks it IS just the surface ("oh it's just an Xbox blahblah") then I think they lack a bit of depth TBH. x:

I'm sorry your XBOX broke :( I would repair for free if I was in your area (I repaired my brother's XBOX when the disc got stuck and we couldn't open the door of the system because there was a part that broke).

I'm also sorry you can't pay to get it properly repaired. When my ~11 years old computer died, I had to wait 3 months to get a new one. I freaked out because it's literally my only source of .. comfort and social thing out there. It's not stupid at all to cry about it. My brother cried when his XBOX fucked up, he freaks out too.

Don't be ashamed. I hope you'll be able to get it repaired quickly.

Thanks. hugs back

Thanks. I'm going to ask my parents again I guess. Or maybe try to sell something on Craigslist.

Completely. My parents lack that depth. They don't understand about my social problems and my dad always says to 'stop playing those stupid games'. He doesn't understand and probably never will, how important a connection my xbox is for me.

I don't suppose you're near the Ann Arbor area or Toledo area? Michigan or Ohio? Hah, probably not. My luck never runs to the good side of things. That's really nice of you to say that though. :)

I'm not even in America right now :( Maybe try calling another repair place? I don't like Microsoft policy and their so-called-client-services. They are downright rude and blame us most of the time.

No problem. Maybe ask to borrow it and pay them back in stages. $10 here, $20 there. I hope you're able to get it fixed

I've already got it at the one repair place because I need it back asap. But if the guy calls and asks for too much (he said he'd call before he did anything) I will take it to another place I guess.

They don't like doing that for whatever reason. When I borrow money, they want it all back at once. :/ I might have to try asking them to do that again though.

I would too. I was stressed out when my laptop stopped working. Thankfully my dad was able to replace it for me because the connection to the screen was broken.
