Story: Cap'n Calla got her start in life with a Traveller/Rom family in Ireland. What her family lacked in money and status, they more than made up for in love and musical talent. As the years went on, however, her family did not escape discrimination and persecution by settled communities. When her father was unjustly imprisoned and drawn into a press gang, Calla, her eight siblings and their mother were left to fend for themselves. When Miranda Blackpearl's uncle, Captain John "Longfeather" Blackpearl, pulled into port at Waterford, he offered her a way to support her family. Calla and Longfeather's niece, Miranda bonded instantly over a shared love of music. How did she get her own ship and become a Cap'n herself, you ask? Let's just say there's a reason they call her "Bloodsmear" (and dead men tell no tales...)!
Name: Saraphina Savagé Birth Name: Country of Origin: Haiti Instrument: Tambourin
Story: Came to the British Isles on a prison ship but could escape by seducing the captain and escaping with all his gold. With this small fortune, she purchased her first vessel and roamed the seas - tricking traders into believing her ship was full with helpless women before robbing them of their riches. Her love for music and companionship has led her to take up a spot in King's Ransom.
Story: Orphaned at a young age Wilma lived on the streets for years, picking pockets and stealing morsels of food to survive. Arrested several times, she was eventually deported to the new world as a felon. With nowhere to go and very few options for legitimate employment, she took scullery work on a privateer ship where she was gifted a flute by one of the crew. Finding she had a talent for it, it wasn't long before she was earning coins entertaining the crew with her music. She has since been sailing the seas for years, joining with other traveling musicians and entertaining crowds aboard ship and at whatever exotic port she finds herself.
Name: Smilin' Anita Sparrow Birth Name: Country of Origin: Ireland Instrument: Fiddle
Story: Anita hails from the Emerald Isle, as her flame red hair can attest. She was born to a merchant family of some wealth but longed for freedom. Fleeing from an arranged marriage, she escaped with the only thing she valued; her fiddle. With a new name and a hasty haircut, she made her way to the port towns, busking on street corners and learning the lively music of sailors until one day she caught the ear of musically inclined Captain.
Name: Miranda Blackpearl Birth Name: Country of Origin: Venezuela Instrument: Drums
Story: Raised on an Island until government troops tried to raid the island. Her family clan wanted to get the kids out of that trouble, so she arrived in Scotland with the ship of her uncle Captain John "Longfeather" Blackpearl. She already lived for a while in Glasgow where at last she met the band.
Name: Ferdinand Redbeard Birth Name: Country of Origin: England Instrument: Bagpipes
Story: Ferdinand grew up in a rather sheltered home, with his parents being quite protective of him and his siblings. Since jobs where rare in the country and staying at home doing nothing wasn't an option he decided to join a cargoship: carrying boxes, cleaning the deck, doing pretty much everything no one else wanted to do. He basically had an honest job, but certainly wasn't satisfied with it, so things happened including stealing food, practicing to play bagpipes in the middle of the night and getting drunk during work hours. One day, when his captain finally had enough, he got fired and kicked out of the ship in a harbor in ireland, and that's where he first met the other members of the crew...
