I cannot for the life of me seem to get getting her treasure chest not to run into the background.

you need to code in the width and height of the TC. For instance my pet Tedd E Bare has this code controlling the tc:

{position:absolute; width:155px;height:167px; top:110px;left:595px;opacity: 0.5;overflow:auto;}
