My pet Clytie needs a story! I know I want her to be a mermaid but I don't really want the stereotypical seashell collecting, tragic love stories or stuff like that. She's spunky, fun and cute but she's not a little kid (between 12 and 14 I guess?).

Any fun suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

For beginnings, you can try to define certain things about her character and surroundings, which in turn can help you build her story forward. (: Here's some quick elements that might help you to define your character more and get more in touch with her~

ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Where does Clytie live? Is she a mermaid living in a warm climate / tropical ocean or perhaps a cold water mermaid? Does she live in the ocean or a lake, some other body of water (river, swamp, aquarium etc)? The Arctic? How near the surface?

  2. Does she live in a mermaid community, or is she one of a kind? Perhaps she travels the seas with a school of fish, or other merfolk? Who does she interact with, animals, mermaids, humans or perhaps some other fantasy creatures or entities?

  3. How does she feel about her environment, is there anything she wants to change about it? (live in a warmer water, meet with new beings, travel the currents, escape danger, you name it)

LOOKS:

  1. Does her environment affect her looks? Skintone, resemblance to a certain fish type, are there visible traits she shares with her community?

  2. does she have any special marks or scars, why and how did she get them?

  3. If she bears resemblance to a fish breed, does it show in her behavior? A shark mermaid who hunts her prey / poisonous lionfish mermaid / a playful dolphin mermaid etc etc.

. . . .

I'd say that the easiest way to start building a story is to involve two or more pets in the same story (at least this is how I work), since this way you can use their interactions to catalyst events and conflicts, especially if the characters have opposing beliefs or motives.

I am working on my own pet stories at the moment as well, one of them happens to involve a merperson (mer..demon?). If you have trouble with anything, I would gladly help if I can! (:

Her hair and tail are very brightly colored so she's more tropical. But that's pretty much all I've come up with for now. That's one of the reason I made this thread. If anything, it'll help get me started.
